Some people get mugged because of the shoes they wear.
Does staying below the radar means you have to dress like a bum, drive an old small car as well ? How far you want to go with this ?
Just wear and use what you like imho

Fluted bezel is a signatory of Rolex so it does stand out a little for an SS, more under the radar would be an Exp, and if you want to go Axel Foley deep deep deep under the radar put it on a strap.

It's hard to say. I have a SS DJ fluted bezel and a Sub. No one ever comments on either...but that doesn't mean they don't notice.

Honestly I never thought about it nor do I really care either way. Wear what you like for you.

Paul, I really don't think that any variety of the DJ could be considered under the radar. Maybe keep the Exp as your travel watch and the DJ for more dressy occasions. Let Anna wear it every so often. (Sorry, couldn't resist!)

Paul, I think you need to accept that the cyclops and oyster bracelet of your Exp II stand out plenty for those looking for that sort of thing.

I don't think a DJ will stand out any more or less (although YG and/or fluted bezel will flash a bit more).

Before I even got into this hobby, I could spot a Datejust from a mile away, especially with a fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. I couldn't do the same with any of the sport models. So my answer is an emphatic no.

Yes Datejust is a low key watch, specially with plain bezel (vs flutted) and oyster band (versus jubilee)

My most noticeable watch is the SS GMT II black ceramic. Although my Daytona SS is almost twice as much expensive.

The Datejust and Submariner are the most recognized watches in the world. Highly doubtful either will ever fly under the radar. Do what I do, wear a cheap watch when traveling. I would rather be wearing a Rolex, but you do what makes you comfortable.

I'd have to say no, especially with a fluted bezel.

DateJust, yes, but the Sub is really only recognized by people interested in watches, and those people are becoming fewer and fewer. The market is so flooded with dive watches that I don't think many notice a Sub.

Sadly I believe this is the case. Some notice and assume it's fake.

I had a customer wearing an Invicta that looked so much like a Sub I had to stare at it hard from a couple of feet away to determine that it was not a Rolex.

I'm not sure how companies are not sued for making something so blatantly similar.

Yep, I'm not only talking about blatant Sub copies. Most wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Sub and any other diver with a timing bezel from a few feet away.

I think it all depends on who notices and understands luxury watches. I work in an office and wear all my nice watches, no body notices or has said anything. It's good b/c I prefer to fly under the radar.

The DJ is the most iconic / recognizable Rolex there is.

Even folks not into watches can pick one out. Not as a Date Just but as a Rolex.

Thieves can also spot them a mile away.

In other words - the least under the radar Rolex imaginable.

IMO

I agree. Your better bet would be a Sub, which is easily mistaken for Invicta

DJ + fluted bezel + jubilee + Cyclops = Rolex to most of the population. And to most, Rolex means money. Narrow that list with the criminal element group in a 3rd world country and it's a toxic combination for sure, but I digress.

I think the DJ's definitely fly above the radar, not under. Very noticeable and easily identifiable.

Paul, as a former owner of TT Darejust in the 70's and 80's, I transitioned to SS and platinum as the TT's remind me of the 80's where every waiter wore real of fake TT DJ's: the became the iconic 80's watch.

There is good reason to wear TT if you wear mixed metal assessories: TT goes with both metal tones and can pull a look together, especially for women.

But nowadays I only wear silver toned blazer buttons, etc. But my wife sports a TT YM and it looks great on her. So each to their own.

After wearing Omega through the entire Olympics, this thread has spurred my return to the fold with my 16013. Where I live it is pretty much an under the radar watch. Not too many in these parts pay attention to wrist jewelry.

I would say it will definitely stand out more than your explorer but its still not going to stand out like a two tone would.

Dj2 is not under the radar

DJ 36mm depending on configuration can fly under radar

And the same 36mm a little louder with the bracelet

If there was an actual "Rolex radar," it'd have a fluted bezel and a cyclops on it.
