I'm not convinced that the work was done by a RSC.
The case lugs are not finished like original, and a RSC would do a much better job regardless of wear and tear issues. IMO.

The serial no appears to be still somewhat visible and as others have stated the bracelet end links can wear it off as it's not stamped that deep to start with.

Yes, Rolex filed off the numbers on the side of the watch! Heaven knows why. They also replaced the back with one that has no markings at all. Is this what Rolex has become? The serial number was 8358076 purchased on 11/02/1986.

I have totally lost all respect for Rolex and would never even mention its name again as well as refrain from wearing this piece of junk.

Don't tell me OP was wearing a fake Sea Dweller for 40 years.......... RSC doesn't make mistakes like this ever. But as others have stated, on older bracelets the grime and dirt being present between the lugs and the bracelet can actually wear down the serial number between the lugs. Similar to seawater wearing down a sharp rock on a beach shoreline.

My first day date was a 6 mill serial (1980 ish) and when the bracelet was off, the serial number was barely legible... Took a loupe to read all numbers .. so OP seems to be guessing as to what happened... IMHO

I am having a hard time understanding this. We are already at post #45 without the OP posting pictures that CLEARLY show what is alleged to have happened at RSC. Either a scammer trying to figure out if he can sell a cheap fake here or a 12 yo wanting to stir up trouble. JMO

Very surprising. Regardless of what cased it, will RSC issue a service record with the serial number? Maybe it appears somewhere on the movement as with Breitling. Otherwise, you could ask what it would cost to restore it, if possible, with a RSC service ticket for same for posterity.
