Go to all the high end boutiques and just talk to all the sales associates and pick their brains. I've learned a lot about watches from some very informed and passionate AD's.

Hello from another long time member from AZ. I think you are just at a crossroads in your collection. Something new will come along that you must have, trust me. I would just take a breath and be patient.
Personally, I have owned so many nice watches over the years. It is ridiculous how many I have bought and sold over the years. Right now I am smack dab in the middle of raising 3 expensive kids and I have no nice watches, just a few G Shocks. I was content for quite some time, knowing I was spoiling my kids was enough. Now I am in the cars, college, expensive activity faze of my life, but they are my grails so it is what it is. I will purchase one more nice watch within the year hopefully, and that will be it for me. You should be so happy with your amazing collection, you already have some fantastic pieces. Oh, love the Cardinals strap!!!!!!!!!!

No need to do anything. There is a certain satisfaction in being content.

I'm @ a similar place.....and this is exactly what I'm doing now basically (might have some side distractions). It's good being content and not hunting anymore basically. Just enjoy!

"perhaps it's time to start collecting cars? "
Not again!!!! At this stage of life I am divesting of things, especially things I don't use frequently. First 30 years = building career, no money. Middle 30 years = career going strong, enough money, acquiring things. Last 30 years = retired, enough money, can't remember where things are. |

Looks like it is time to start on a PM. I rotate between PMs and SS so it can be done and if you only wear PMs you can take them for granted so good to have an SS in there to re-appreciate them every time.

Guys name is Johnny, real cool guy, I met him in person when I was on Business in Northern California. He does great work. Mention my name and strap and he should remember me.

Personally, my ideal Rolex collection is one SS and one PM (specifically, YG). For me, it'd be SS Sub and DD 40. Aside from just consolidating and getting less more expensive models, why not check out all the other cool brands? Patek? Lange? AP?

The quicker you accumulate the less you appreciate in my opinion. Im a hypocrite saying this as ive bought a fair few over the years in a very small time period. Doing this the watches become less special as you simply go on to the next one...
After a while I find that some of my collection is ignored / neglected. I have decided to downsize to the ones I really love and forget about the others, nice to own them but bye bye |

You have purchased quite a few pieces jut this year. I say sit back and enjoy them. No need to fret over not having another watch desire. Enjoy the collection you've built so far; it's easy to get caught up in the buy buy buy mentality and want more more more.

Something very special about having a Rolex on my wrist and its an inward feeling for me and not an outward expression.

Wait until a specific watch hits (other than general urge to get something). In the meantime, read and study up. Wouldn't rule out vintage either - bit more challenging to know the ins and outs of what you are going after, but the hunt can be a different level and more satisfying. |

I can relate which is why I've been studying watchmaking. Keeps me occupied until my next acquisition interests me. I like buying restoration pieces and working on them.

I've cycled through a few Rolex - PM, SS and TT until I settled for now on the 1 example I like best which gets most my wrist time. Not easy to pick just 1 from so many cool models old and new but nothing else in the line tempting me for now. Then I did same with some other brands, just 1 of each that I like the best so far to keep an open mind and to change things up a bit.

Exactly. Well said. If you can't find anything else to do with your extra cash, just save it for the day when there is something else you want, and it doesn't need to be a watch.

I don't know. I guess some guys would like 10 Audis in the garage, while others would rather just have a Bentley and an Aston Martin. I tend to fall into the latter camp. |
