I would return and have RSC deal with it as you have, I recently had a watch with a tiny dust mark on the dial and only visible when the light shone on it from 9 o'clock. I returned it, dial and rehaut imperfections I can't live with these days.

Glad to read that the AD is taking care of it. This is the right move; you'll be much happier. No reason that the seller can't chip it some bucks to help with the cost of sending it off.

The good news is because I went back to the AD that the seller purchased the piece from, they are going to absorb the shipping costs. That was a nice touch on their end.

They said anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Apparently that's not uncommon for Rolex.

I had to laugh a little. When the AD assistant manager told me it would be 3-6 weeks for the watch to return from Rolex. He had such a remorseful look on his face, as if he just delivered some terrible news. He must see lots of shocked faces when he tells customers it will be 3-6 weeks. I think that's a reasonable timeframe. I'm thinking it may even be longer than that, but it's not like I don't have other watches to wear.

In the meantime I guess I'll have no choice but to wear this old thing.

might as well send it in for service.

the cost of the warranty is built into the cost of the watch anyway --- so, use it because you'd have to disclose the issue if you ever sell it.

The watchmaker was there as well. He took a look to offer a second opinion and looked at it and said he thought it looked like fingerprints. A lady that was behind the counter also came over for a peak and she thought it looked like residue from a tool that was used to assemble the watch.

Long story short, everyone agreed it was unusual for a Tudor. They were more than happy to send it in for service on my behalf. They also added a request for Rolex to regulate the movement to run more accurately since they're already going to be opening the watch. My accuracy wasn't bad (+6 seconds a day average) but hey, if they can regulate it better than that why not?
Perfect. Rolex will make it right for you.

There is one variable that none of you have mentioned. Rolex looks at the watch, determines that the watch was opened and "manhandled". The seller lied, and you'll have to pay for the repair.

I seriously hope it hasn't been opened.

The watch back still had the clear sticker with the red stripe on it when I bought it. I know the sticker hasn't been removed because it was kind of tough to remove. Not to say that a watch back couldn't be removed with the sticker in tact, but the watch is in mint condition. Not a scratch or scuff on it. This thing was a safe queen. I'd be shocked if Rolex came back and told me that somebody opened that watch. I guess we'll wait and see.

Is +6 seconds per day average for that watch? After 10 days I'm a minute off? Too much for me.

Freaking OCD kicks in hard sometimes.
It looks more like a tiny bit of Fomblin grease from the crystal seal gasket to me and will do no harm whatsoever.

How much time do you think these guys spend on each watch before flipping? Clearly not much in this case.

as soon as you noticed it it would continue to bother you, good call sending it in. 3-6 weeks isn't too bad and you'll have a like new better regulated piece

I'll be posting an incoming thread here in a few minutes. Not quite a 16710 tho.

If purchased properly, one can always return it.

Don't be sorry... I mean, I have purchased houses sight unseen...

I would sort it out of I could see the finger prints. I can barely make out my date on my SD4K let alone be able to see this kinds of marks. But yes, it would bother me.

UPDATE: I received a call from the AD on Thursday with an update from Tudor. Apparently the watchmaker that was working on my watch was "appalled" that the piece was allowed to leave the factory with fingerprints on the rehaut ring and that she felt it was "unacceptable". I chuckled a bit when I heard that she was "appalled". This election year has been appalling, but some fingerprints on the rehaut ring?

I also found it classy that they asked my permission for the watchmaker to wear the watch on her wrist for two days while she worked at her bench (and only while she is at the bench) in order to observe the timing accuracy of the movement and it's accuracy behavior throughout the day BEFORE she made adjustments.

I should have it on my wrist in about a week. So far so good.

Hm, just wondering though...If the previous owner you bought it from opened up the watch or had someone else open it, getting the smudges in there, does that affect the warranty in any way?

Wow, so glad to hear the AD was willing to work with you and Rolex deemed it unacceptable as well. Seems like great news all around, plus having the accuracy checked on top. Looking forward to hearing once it arrives back to you.

Sounds like Rolex have behaved impeccably and tried to satisy you throughout every stage.
And on a Tudor watch you bought on the secondary.

Glad to hear it has all worked out well. Please post pics on its return.
