I have had some success with search. Before I made my first post, I wanted to find out why the luminescence on my watch was going away. I learned a lot about tritium (my watch), luminova, and superluminova. Sometimes search works fine, other times not so well. Some of it probably has to do with the proper choice of search words, so you don't get a hit for every post ever made, and don't get zero hits when the information you want is lurking there.
In a lot of cases, people don't bother to search. I plead guilty to that.

I am afraid that I have found this thread to be more tedious in its haughty character than any number of repetitious inquiries could ever be. Thumbs up to those of you who buck the trend.

Haughty?!?
I have never ever been haughty...well apart from when I'm telling you all that I'm so much better than you. But that is not often...only maybe once every ten posts!!!! Haughty indeed! J |

Hey Jimbits... I am not calling any one person haughty. But the general tone is that of superiority. Who becomes the arbiter of what is interesting and what isn't? I am quite sure that my interests run counter to many folks here, but I am grateful to be allowed to participate on whatever level I do, to feel free to ask questions, and I am grateful to find that my questions meet with some interest and answers. While I am not interested by every post, I sure do enjoy the camaraderie, and a thread like this has a tendency to put a damper on it.

Agree that some posts are repetative , but there is always something a little different in each one, not to mention some great hijacking ! Without them TRF wouldn';t be what it is today ,

Yeah, I get that. Are they illegitimate? Only if the asker already knows the answer. It seems to me that any appropriate question is going to have to be regarded as legitimate as long as new members are welcome to sign on. But hey, I'm just new here myself. I think Swatty got it right, that the repetition is a necessary aspect of the surge of general creativity.

I don't mind the repetition at all. I'm sure I've posted what could be considered elemental questions and I have always been answered in a respectful way.
That said, I have also read others seemingly elemental questions, learned the answers and can now provide some answers to the simpler questions. It's nice to give back but I couldn't do it without the constant refresher. I also like to see the enthusiasm of new Rolex owners as they ask questions and are encouraged to post pictures of watches that, lets face it, we've seen before. TRF is a very tolerant atmosphere and the membership is very encouraging. Let's keep it that way.

I understand where people are coming from to some extent but the membership here is constantly growing and if 1 person is asking a question that to some seems inane or repetitive I guarantee there are a plenty who learned from the thread.
And yes I've seen the 12 noon date change question more than once.

How about a search function? That would help eliminate some of the newbie posts.
