If your customer is wealthy he shouldn't have a problem with you wearing a nice watch that he knows first hand you have earned. As for your family, they know what you make so how you spend your money is not really their business altho family are permitted to put their slams in, as are you ofc.

This statement is simply not true, and unverifiable. Maybe 97% of people don't comment, which is more likely the case.
But, to your question, I would wear it.

I suggest you listen to your instincts. You know your parents and your customers better than Internet strangers. If you feel a Rolex sends the wrong message, leave it at home.

I have to agree that people notice your watch. Everyone does.
I have a Junghans Max bill on a mesh bracelet which I wore once to dinner with friends and my friends girlfriend noticed and asked me about it. If it looks good, is shiny, people will notice. If people think/know you are doing alright/well off it's even easier for them to make up their mind. |

Enjoy the occasion AND the feeling that you get when you slip your watch on to your wrist. There's just something about wearing a Rolex. (It's NOT necessarily the amout of cash that it cost you, either!) Party on! Later.

Might as well enjoy the fruits of your labor and continued success. Life is too short. Besides, the only people who notice Rolexes are: (1) other Rolex owners, (2) potential Rolex theives, (3) Rolex aspirants and (4) gold-digging bimbo/opportunists (in a heterosexual world, they are usually female). By avoiding #2 and #4,
you are home free! While ostentatious Rolex 'flashers' often lack good taste and refinement, the casual, 'matter of factly wearer' is what the brand is all about. |

FWIW, I think you should wear it, just don't kid yourself that onlookers won't notice. I'm a physician, and whenever I'm having a "sensitive" discussion with patients, I make damn sure they can't see my watch. |

I would wear it, as that's what I got it for.
I've had way more people notice and comment on my fitbit than any watch I've ever worn. And I'm good with that. It's up to you as to what feels right and matches your comfort level. Enjoy the party. |

I, for one, am proud of my watches. Why worry about other peoples jealousy or disdain for your choices in life? My wife's family ridicules my house, my car, and my watches; I'm starting to have fun with it. Wear the watch!

Went with a peach colored shirt instead of a pink shirt. Thanks for all of the opinions.

Rolex are marketing monsters, and I think it's very naive to assume that no-one notices a Rolex. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's completely absurd. |

So, it's the next day now. Tell us, did you wear it and, if so, did anyone notice?

I can actually identify.
I do wear my Rolex everywhere- except around my own parents. I can identify, but don't have any clever answers. I will say that I have had my watch for a month and a half, and not a single person has commented on it. Zero. Perhaps we are the ones who notice and that's it? |

It depends..
Depends on the situation and your relationship with the people you're going to meet with. In the situation you described, I'd wear it. If I'm going to meet with a close family member who's not doing well financially, I probably won't wear an expensive looking gold Rolex watch. If I'm going to a Rolex store to try to get a deal on a watch, I'll probably wear a Rolex so they know I'm a serious potential buyer. If I'm going to negotiate with a contractor or handyman for repairs and trying to get a good deal, I probably won't wear an expensive looking Rolex watch. I don't overthink it. It's like wearing clothes that is appropriate to the situation.
But to answer your questions, yes. |

I am who I am, so I wear my watches. I get enjoyment from wearing them. People who know I'm a watch enthusiast sometimes comment. Generally people don't say anything to me unless they themselves are watch people. I don't brag about my watches, though. Just be you.

I disagree with the general statement that a lot of people make (in this and other threads) that goes along the lines of "nobody notices watches". In some countries, cultures, or regions, people *will* size you up and take notice of everything you are wearing, or not wearing, and what kind of image you project. Sometimes this is done consciously, but other times it is very unconsciously. I am Hispanic, and I can tell you that in Hispanic cultures it is very normal to do this, and particularly so in some countries (Mexico comes to mind, but the same can be said of many others) and the same is true of many cities around the US (Miami, NYC, Dallas, LA are places where I have noticed and witnessed the behavior/tendency first hand) and that is simply normal (to me, at least) but overall this is also normal human behavior, but most people don't realize it or acknowledge it. Anytime you interact with someone, you immediately assess each other. This is a primal behavior, a relic of our evolution of basic "fight or flight" response to new things. In any case, I believe that a lot of people do notice, but some will simply do so subconsciously so their brains "archive" the observation as just another data point, others may actively notice and simply not say something (because it is the "polite" thing to do, or not do) and others react and say something (which can be awkward, or funny) but a lot more people notice than some here seem to think. In any case, whether people notice, or not, it is solely on them how they react. As others have pointed out, you should be comfortable with your watch and what you choose to own, or you will always find yourself "suffering" through a process of self doubt, or self questioning. That's too emotionally draining, even if you don't realize it.
Most of my clients (I am an IT consultant in NYC) do notice the watches, but rarely do they comment. Occasionally, I get a jealous/derisive/passive-agressive comment (such as "well, must be nice" or "we are paying you too much!") to which I usually just shrug my shoulders and reply with "I work really hard, spend my money wisely, live frugally at times, and like to enjoy the finer things in life". Let them seethe with envy. And, to the person who made the analogy of pink shirts: that was a perfect way to put it. I *love* wearing pink shirts, as well as flower dress shirts. I find them elegant, and they appeal to my sense of aesthetics, and OF COURSE people notice. The typical reaction from guys is "dude, what's with all the pink shirts!?" or many more years ago "are you gay?" which is now too un-PC to be uttered in public (ha!) while most women react with "nice shirt!" or "i like the way you dress" and guess what? I don't care one bit... I wear the shirts I wear because I like them. What people think or don't think matters very little to me. All this to say, wear the damn watch, and enjoy it! Life is too short to be consumed by what others think or say. |

I understand your concern. Since you are even asking the question, it may not be the best choice. I'm sure nobody will notice, but if your are going to be uncomfortable then wear another watch.
