What about an Explorer I or one of the new Oyster Perpetuals? Those can be had for under $5k. Clean, simple, elegant watches IMHO.

For a lady i'd always recommend a DJ.
However......... As you have already stated she is not materialistic why not use the $5k on the most memorable experience? (You can always buy her a Rolex but you only get one shot at proposing). An example: Take a helicopter flight - eventually fly over a farm where the farmer has cut "Will you marry me?" in to his field? Then fly on to a posh country hotel, land in the hotel grounds (be met with champagne etc) and have a spa weekend etc etc etc etc. Trust me - she will remember this forever (you will gain LOTS of brownie points) and she will be the envy of her friends because SHE has the really thoughtful and romantic fiance. You could come in well under budget meaning more $$$ for your watch fund. Ahem, I mean the wedding fund |
