As for the dial, they will leave it on, so no harm, or double standard?!

Most of the original quote was optional, so I understand the original sticker shock, but you're not obligated in any way...

Or is this all about costs you think are exorbitant?
Exactly

holy crap, 20% tax! That would bother me more than the insane quote.

Seems like watch manufacturers are trying to make up for lost sales by clamping down on service and being super aggressive. Seems like a losing strategy to me

Further to our recent telephone conversation I am pleased to confirm revised costings as below.

Full Service £337.50 exc VAT

Bracelet Section £210.81 exc VAT

Clasp £102.70 exc VAT

Bezel £ 85.14 exc VAT

Total £736.15 exc VAT

VAT £147.23

Total inc VAT £883.38

To confirm the details of our discussion, the dial, whilst now incorrect for the model, would have been acceptable at the time the watch was produced and we are therefore happy to allow it to remain on the watch.

We further advise that, whilst the Case flange is damaged, we will allow the original case to remain on the watch but will be unable to accept any responsibility for the waterproof qualities of the watch hereafter.

Should you wish to replace the whole bracelet at this time, rather than the two individual components noted above, we kindly advise that the cost of a new bracelet would be £625.00 exc VAT.

How generous to ALLOW me to keep the face the watch was supplied with!!

So £900 for the work and they are unable to guarantee waterproof unless I spend an addition £1100 on a new case.

They are so strict about the face, but 'happy' to send out a watch that mey not be waterproof. Anyone else think this is double standards....
They've tried chancing it with the original quote. You've spoken to the 'man' and he's reduced the cost significantly. Based on your sentiments towards this watch, I'd take the offer and get them to service it.

I think the OP has got good reason to question RSC.

They gone in with an 'assumptive' quote here clearly hoping that he would simply give the green light, like I'm sure, many Rolex owners do.

What they should have done is given a breakdown and provided clarity on what was 'recommended' versus 'vital'. Transparency like that gives credibility and they are more likely to be given the go-ahead on the work. They shouldn't just muscle in there with a quote for a load of elements that are, subjective.

When I take my car in to the main dealer for some new brakes, or for a straight forward service, guaranteed, I get a call to tell me the work needed is hundreds more. Why, because they tot up a load of stuff they can add on to the job in the hope that it will get a pass. It's a numbers game - the more customers they do this to, the higher the chances someone won't question it and not expect a breakdown.

However much people of this forum love Rolex, it's a business, like any other and they will work to the same principles as many other companies that provide servicing of items that are mechanical in nature.
