Hi All,
I have the pleasure to own both,I got the GMTIIC first because I like ALL it's features........oversize case, ceramic besel, large besel numbers, new movement etc. I love the polished centre link but then again I don't think the GMT range was ever a "tool watch" in the same way that a Sub or SD is. A short while later I found a new 16710 Pepsi so I bought that also.I wear them both and any direct comparison is unfair IMO they are both superb but in different ways. The116710 is the first 21st.century Rolex. The 16710 is a Classic Rolex. But in my humble opinion The Sub rules............ Regards Mike. |

I maintain Rolex should of kept the Classic GMT Master range alongside the new version.
Its great news for the pre-owned market though

I'm a proud new owner of a 16710; trying to sell my Exp II to finalize the "flip".
However, I do miss the 3186 movement (more mentally than functionally) and I do like the Maxi dial. BUT: for me personally, Polished Ceter Links are an absolute deal-breaker and I sold a YM almost immediately after getting one for the same reason. I'm really hoping that the new Sub's all have PCL so that I can feel even better about my own "old style" LV. |

I love both versions of the GMT, but since I have the new, I'm definitely on the hunt for an older one. Right now, my Sub is getting almost all of my wrist time. |

The 116710 was ruined thanks to the PCL. Destroyed a classic.
"Not to mention the solid shiny polished center links?" That managed to turn the watch into something that looks like a Tissot bracelet. |

If I ever get another Rolex, the only one I would consider is the Pepsi. It is a classic. The more I see it, the more I want one.

I own a v series GMT II c, and I had the pcl's brushed out the same week I bought it. It made a huge difference in the way it looks. For anyone who does not like the pcl's , it's an easy fix.

100% 16710!!
The new GMT-IIc is too bulky for me, don't like the bigwatch thing. If id change to a different GMT it would definitely be a 1675 Gr. sBmRnR |

How about 16713 TT GMT?? I have had a 16710, 116710, and now a 16713, and I much prefer the 16710 or 16713 over the 116710 ceramic.....brushed center links hide the scratches from the desk, and *IF* the bezel were to get damaged, I would much rather spend $100 instead of over $1000 for the repair.

I put them together side by side and the 16710 just looked better to my eye. It's not that I dislike the 116710 (except for the green hand... I mean com'on, a green GMT hand) but with large bezel markers combined with the Maxi dial it kinda shouts at you. And I have mixed thoughts about the block case. It would have been better if they had kept the look of the old case and just up-sized it by 1-1.5mm. Then there's the flexibility of the 16710.
I guess the other way to put it is the improvements are not valued by me enough to pay more for them. Oh, and I need a 120 click bezel.

Both
As far as improved...I don't think there is any real improvement. They made the new GMT more shiny, thats about it, and a virtually invisible change to the movement 3185/3186. No real benefit unless you sit a "wiggle" the the 24 hr for thrills
Is a ceramic bezel improved...dont think so. Just different. Shiny center links....improved...dont think so again. Bigger case....style only. Everything has been cosmetic changes only..... The only real improvement is the clasp withe the micro adjustment. Makes the bracelet better....easier to adjust. I own both a 16710 and 116713 and between the 2....if one had to go it would be the 116713.

I like 'em all, 6542, 1675, 16750, 16700, 16760, 16710 & 'The C'...but I have to say that if pressed to choose between these two models, I like the 116710 better than the 16710.
I like the heavier 'blingier' bracelet, the ceramic bezel w/ larger numbers, the maxi dial, the larger case, everything. If you don't like the PCLs you can always have them brushed. Granted, at present you can't swap out bezel inserts...but who knows what might come along later. On that note, I have no interest in swapping the insert on my 1675 to anything other than the Pepsi. So I guess I agree with Mike (not a big surprise)...'Buy 'em all!'

My thoughts after getting II back from the RSC and having worn the IIc in the meantime.
Bezel, TIE-Pepsi looks better but the fad kills it, 102 clicks makes II more user friendly for timing. Band, IIC-PCL non issue but the new clasp takes the cake, no rattle and the quick link rocks Dial, II-Maxi is hard to read! Crown, IIc-Triple Lock EVERYTIME. Case, TIE- IIC size is great but the lug taper is not well thought out. Looks, II- Just better Movement, Tie- They both work Hands, II- Red is quicker to spot. Therefore the II wins my vote plus my wife gave it to me on our wedding night so I am biased. |

My 116710 is my daily wearer, and the 16710 I have in the safe. I brushed the bracelet on the 116710 and looks like the older version, yet has the benefits of the newer version. I have plenty of thoughts on the subject at http://www.minus4plus6.com/116710.htm Get a 116710 and brush the bracelet. -Sheldon

For me the fact that the 16710 or the 1675 or any GMT for that matter has such a cool history. It's been associated with the military for a very long time. Instantly recognizable, it's the watch your father may have worn, and handed down to his son. (Magnum PI wore his father's! lol) For me it's all about pedigree. There is no watch like a Pepsi. It's not so common as a Sub, and not so "flashy" (If thats the right word) as a 116710. It's been around for 50 years, and I wish they would make them for another 50.
It was the watch I bought in Dec of 2006 as my first and only Rolex. I saw it for the first time in a magazine on some guys wrist, when I was in college in the mid 90's and I always said I would have one. Well, now I do! Merry Christmas! |

the previous model 16710 whether it's black, coke or pepsi flavor is a classic, a must have for any Rolex collection imho.

I love 'em both. The classic is awesome and was my first Rolex and purchased in 1978. I now have the new IIc and it's the best and most accurate Rolex I've seen or owned. I'd still be very happy with the classic though. As for the polished links in the IIc, it never ceases to amaze me how that can be a deal breaker for some people when it's SO freakin' easy to brush them.

The "sticks" have been around since 2005, they don't mean anything. It is just a different font, just like lots of other models have experienced over the years.
By the way, this thread is over a year old.

I know many folks pooh pooh the rarity and all, but you cannot deny sellers asking - and getting - a premium for these. Just saw a Stick Font Pepsi WITH a 3186 go for ~$5,000 on Timezone. Great seller / excellent condition did not hurt. Yup. The thread is old, but seems like there is still life in the topic. |

You can all blame me for digging this post up, but I like I said (page 2), I just picked up a Z series black 16710 and I'm loving it. the fact that it sits lower on my wrist than a sub is really nice, but I like that it has a sportier look than the Exp II that I'm tryin to sell.
Thank you for all the input here. I think I may have found my new favorite Model!! Great stuff. |
