PS I never, ever smoked cigarettes and probably get through a couple of cigars every 6 months but I could take it or leave it.

Yes, the addiction is a legal one, but most of the people I see dying of cancer say the years of pleasure weren't worth spending the last months in daily misery unable to eat/speak/breathe/walk.

My husband echoes Joe's sentiments - it's awful good for the doctor business. Don't stop the heavy drinkin', keep baking in the sun, and smoke 'em if you got 'em. He'll be able to retire before he knows it.

By then it's too late. Yet many smokers today would still say "I don't care".

In the US it's different, you will get the inevitable "I'm not hurting anybody but myself" (They forget their loved ones) as obviously private medical expenses/insurances prevail but here in the UK most of these smokers are treated on the welfare state...hospitals under breaking point.

What can be done about it? They print a scarred lung or diseased heart on a pack of 20...the liberals would go up like rockets.

The horror of these consequences is never put across...by the time they realise it, all the repenting in the world isn't gonna help them.
