We've had our first week with temps below 100F.
But the weatherman just said that they're headed back up over 100 next week...

Nope my central air is still on 24/7...
That explains my $300 monthly electricity bill!

I don't have as much firewood as I usually like to have before the season starts
but this year I'm thinking about buying a pallet of Bio Bricks to supplement the oil furnace.

Nothing better than a Husky and 18" bar. I have a couple and a Stihl with a 22'' bar. My in-laws heat with wood only and I help them out every year about this time. Hard work and lots of fun. Well, except for the spiders, snakes, poisen oak and ivey. |

Wife bought me a small electric wood splitter last year for Father's Day.
My neighbor and I cut down, limbed, cut and split a whole tree in 3 hours. I like splitting it by hand and all but the electric splitter saves hours and hours of time.

I am only good for half cord by hand in a day. Yes, I use a log splitter and between my friend (father-in-law) four cords of wood a day are no problem. A cord is, for us at least, four foot high; four foot wide; eight foot long. Won't fit in a pickup truck.

Some of the less scrupulous wood sellers around here stack the wood by the cord before selling. Problem is they stack it criss-cross (like Jenga blocks) and claim it's for air circulation. Poor buyers are getting ripped off.
Wood is so valuable now that after the wind storms people were driving around in trucks and taking people's fallen limbs and trees. I've seen folks spray paint "Do Not Take" on the wood.

It's getting chilly here, but I just LOVE Autumn, so it's nice to wake up to the new colours and new chilly temperatures!

I don't bother with the central heating.
If it's a bit chilly i just sit by a candle. If it gets really cold i light it!!

Low 90's to high 80's in Vegas. No central heating needed till December (hopefully).
Hey, Chris, I just visited Maine a few months ago, around Sebago and Crescent Lake. Beautiful!

Not yet, dipping down to around 10 C at night, still keep the window open for fresh air.
Maybe around Hallowe'en it might get some use.

Baking brownies??? Based on an old family recipe, brownies require a bit of brown sugar.

Oh Gosh. During winter's here it averages around -4 degrees, sometimes colder, during the day!! I'll take your winters, but keep my summers! (Though it gets too hot here, ugh. Between 80-86! )

But I don't like our winters at all, because it's really too cold for me! I have to airconditioning set at 79 degrees day and night! (and then I still grab a blanket to sit under in the couch!)
