Blue dial is not out of fashion. I find the blue dial gorgeous. Colors like anything else is just matter of personal opinion and taste.

I bet those paying 10k over to get a PP 5711/1A-010 would disagree!

> Are Rolex dials a slave to fashion? The safe answer would be no. People make themselves slaves to fashion. As far as blue dials are concerned, they are one of the more attractive offerings (regardless of watch brand). The 'lapis blue' coloration blends in very nicely with SS, white gold or platinum case metals.

That's funny, I thought was the hottest dial color. Seems like every brand has been releasing blue Silas as of late.

I was reading something online last night that said the jubilee bracelet was for old folks.....I guess the same folks are thinking blue is out of style.

I don't have a blue dial. I have a two tone, champagne dialed jubilee braceleted watch that I think is the bee's knees. My opinion of my watch is the only one that matters.

I buy what I like, and I don't really worry about what is the current flavor of the month.........and the blue dial has been around on a Submariner for what......30 years or so ?

I am buying the Daytona with blue dial, because that suits me. The question of 'fashion' just intrigued me. Not least because it seems a key factor in the resale value of certain watches (5711 is a good example.)
The other factor with dial colour is visibility. For instance, some Day Date dials are hard to see in twilight. Anyway, I have waited some months for the blue Daytona, supposed to be with the AD in two weeks time. 'Supposed' may be the key word. Patience.....

the question leaves a lot to interpretation. Is making one of the most mass produced luxury products in the world that has broad appeal and command huge margins being a slave to fashion? Well I think making an ugly, unpopular watch would be a really bad way to try to accomplish this. Of course the attractiveness of the product is a primary concern.

I think maybe the most accurate answer is that Rolex is more in the business of establishing fashion trends (note the ubiquity of Rolex-ish designs) rather than responding to them.

If resale is of concern then you're buying the wrong piece. WG Rolex get slaughtered in general. I think blue dials are always fashionable

"Those that know" probably wear Gucci watches. Any time you worry about what's "in", you just wear whatever celebrity du joir people try to imitate IMO.

As for Rolex, the limited white gold dial options probably have more to do with Rolex planning a revamp of the WG line with perhaps Ceramic and strap options.

I fully accept that. I wouldn't sell because of the financial hit . It is a watch to keep for the long-term.
