To SubC or not to SubC? That is my question.

I get what you're saying regarding the speedy. I've owned it twice and sold it. I love the idea of the speedy, but wasn't excited to wear it, I had to force my self to use it and after a day I went back to the others.

I would get the SubC.

If the SubC is your "dream" watch, then nothing else will do. It was my dream watch and the one I started with. I considered buying a Speedy Pro many times since I could have afforded it a while ago, but every time I tried it on next to the SubC there was no comparison.

Like you, I also love the idea of the Speedy Pro better than the watch itself. I may pick one up in the future just to see how it feels, but it's hard to imagine reaching for it in the morning instead of my Sub.

But since you live in my town, if you want to make me a great deal on the Speedy I'm all ears!

The Black Bay can go as far as I'm concerned, the Speedy is the one I'm questioning letting go. It really is a cool watch and fits my wrist even better on a leather strap. But again, little wrist time. I was thinking that between the Datejust and the 116610 I'm pretty much set.

If I make a move it needs to be soon because both the black bay and the Speedy are less than 1 year old, still under warranty, and both in spectacular condition.

I looked at the 16610 as well. Someone mentioned it above. It would actually fit my wrist better due to the case construction. My reservation on that model is the aluminum bezel partly, but mostly it's the bracelet. I really like the bracelet on the new subs. The milled clasp and the glidelock make me drool.
If you are questioning letting the Speedy go then don't. You are right it is better on a leather strap. I wear mine exclusively on a variety of straps the bracelet hasn't been on it for quite sometime. They can all be replaced but how much can they be replaced for? Which is always the question.

Wear the Speedy more than once a week and see if it grows on you. When I wear my non-Rolex watches for a few days in a row I remember why I like them so much. If you wear it for 2 weeks straight and still feel the same then make a move.

I think you should get a Sub date. Iif you flip your BB (& Speedy) for a ND Sub you might find the BB and ND are very similar and regret parting with the BB.

I would replace the BB with the SubC and keep the Speedy. As you said, your tastes will change and I'd try to give the Speedy a little more wrist time, you'll learn to love it. It is a true icon and should have a place in any collection.

Great collection! However, I agree with the consensus above. The SubC date is a killer watch and you will not wear the Speedy or BB if you get it. Plus the DJ and Sub is a fantastic two watch collection.

The collection is pretty balanced now.....I personally like the Black Bays more than the current 6 digit Sub (date or no date) due to aesthetics and the way they wear.....but it's probably a minority opinion.....so personally I would keep your collection as is.

But someone else said it best....if you're not wearing the watch because you don't fancy it....not a bad idea to trade for something you'd like......I just think you should think it through with a sub being the solution to replace the black bay.

I agree with you that the SubC date is a killer watch, but how can you make an assumption on behalf of the OP or anyone as to whether they will or will not wear a speedy if they owned one? Surely this is your personal opinion and yours only. I own the SubC date and the speedy pro and the latter happens to be the one that gets most of my wrist time. Surely I am still missing a datejust, but that's not cause I never owned one - I sold my datejust II in hopes for an SS datejust 41 (I'm an SS kinda guy).

I also agree that the datejust and sub are a perfect well rounded duo collection, but I would never rid my speedy pro, the watch I have an intimate relationship with every morning :).

That's just my personal point of view of course.

The Speedy is the dilemma. If it goes, the Black Bay goes. If it stays, I'm content with how things are and can wait on a SubC date.

I'm married to my Datejust.
I'm engaged to the Speedy but getting having second thoughts thinking of her walk down the isle.
I'm in a Netflix and Chill state with the Black Bay.

I like Wcdhtwn's idea of wearing the Speedy exclusively for a while and see how I feel. Some days I love it, some days I'm just "meh" towards it. Maybe if I give it serious wrist time it will sway me one way or the other.

Don't wear the Speedy now that you don't want to risk getting more scratches because you will be selling it for a SubC. Leave it in the box. take photos and put it up for sale. I owned different versions of the Speedy myself and they just didn't do it for me. I tried to love it but I ended up wasting my money on depreciation. Get the SubC and be happy forever.

Buy another watch without a date window so that he will equally dislike his two watches without date windows?

That sounds like a horrible idea.

That sounds like a horrible idea.

It was a suggestion and I clearly stated I personally prefer the SubC date. Many prefer the no date and the symmetrical dial - not to mention it's the iconic sub for the purist point of view.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but no where did I get the impression that his hesitation with the speedy was due to the no date? But then again, it's a speedy pro - how could you :).

I think you've answered your own question right here. Get the Sub and keep the Speedy; who cares if you only wear it once a week/month/year?

As much as this answer mildly annoys me when I read it in other threads, keep all three and add the Sub providing money isn't an issue. You can always shift the BB further down the line as I would imagine any loss in value over the next year would be academic anyway, especially if it's in A1 condition.

Good luck

You have a very nice collection already with the DJ, Speedy and the BB. Adding a Sub-C would be nice. But to sell or trade in your Speedy and BB for a Sub-C, that is a tough one.

I would keep your current collection until you are 100% fine with letting go of the Speedy and BB. The Sub-C is a dream watch for you, but it is not going away anytime soon. It will still be there for you when you are ready to pull the trigger.

I'd say you already know what you want. Just do it already. Sell the speedy and BB and get yourself a subC date! You will not regret.

Yeah, if you think heavier, bigger and an expensive bezel insert that can crack is better.

Wait a minute, we have an interruption. I've just gotten word from our sources...

Sub C + your DJ would make for a nice pair.
Easy choice for me, as I'm not a chrono fan and like to have the date.

With the trade values of any of your watches you are still going to be short of funds when it comes to a trade if you move one or two of the watches. Keep them all for now, if funds are not an issue pick up the Sub-C Date and put them all in a reasonable rotation for several months and see what you wear and what you don't. Decide what should go and sell it. If you need the funds before you can do a deal I would move the Date Just and the Black Bay. I think you can dress up the Speedy with the right strap if you want and the Sub speaks for itself.

I consider the Speedy the best non-Rolex SS sport watch for the Rolex collector. It really has a place in any collection for the reasons mentioned. I don't wear mine much, but when I do I realize how cool it is. Also it really is a lot of bang for the buck, and you won't make much on a sale. Doesn't make sense to sell it.

+1 to that.

But I would add, he seems to have the 311.30.42.30.01.005 speedy, which can easily fund almost half of the SubC date. Not sure what the US market is but here in canada, my 006 speedy can sell for about CAD$4.5k to $5k used and a SubC date brand new is CAD $8.2k.

Portland, do not sell the Speedy to fund a SubC. The Black Bay, yes. The DJ, Speedy and SubC would make a killer collection.

I thought about just saving up and buying one and keeping what I have, however I truly do not like having a bunch of watches around the house. If I'm not regularly wearing the watch, I don't see the point of keeping it.

So what do you guys think, sell the Speedy and Black Bay and buy a gently used SubC? Or do I keep the Speedy and Black Bay?
Get your dream watch. Sometimes you just gotta scratch that itch.

That would still leave you with the two of the most iconic Rolex watches, the DJ and a sub. You can always add something down the road if you feel like you're needing something.

I think OP was pretty set on not moving his DJ. So not sure why this is being suggested.

OP, I would sell the BB towards funding a SubC. You mentioned it's been your dream watch. Once you have it, I would think the BB won't get a whole lot of wrist time.

The Speedy is a tough one. I think it's an awesome watch, and would like one in my collection one day. But having tried it on several times, it doesn't sing to me on my wrist. It's a watch that I would like to own, but not necessarily wear. I'm OK with that. Sounds weird, I know. But I think if you sell it, you might end up with seller's remorse.

DateJust, Speedy, SubC - sounds like a solid collection.
