Granted, it's not the steel dial that I want, but here is the 36mm on my wrist.

Normally, I would go with the 36mm offering, but I just don't care for the dual markers at the 3, 6 and 9 positions. So, I guess 39mm for me in this instance.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I like the size of the 39, but the dial of the 36 is really speaking to me. I'm going to give it some more thought, but I am leaning toward the 36mm right now...

Now I'm Torn! 36mm vs 39mm OP

Depends on your wrist. Either will work, in all likelihood.

I have a 39mm Explorer. At the time I bought it, I thought the 36mm was too small.

A couple years later, I bought a 36mm OP. Discovered that not only was it not too small, it was perfectly scaled to my wrist.

I still wear both. Just not at the same time.

However, I bought another OP a week ago. The 36mm. Since the OP leans more towards the dress watch then sports watch side, I like the slightly smaller size. The proportions of the dial itself strike me was perfect.

My first OP was silver dial. The new one is blue.

Here are my OPs and Explorer, for reference.

Don't overthink it. Try them on and look at them from various distances in the mirror. Go with the one that you keep coming back to.

36 looks too small on your wrist in my opinion. I like the blue dot accents on the 39... this coming from a woman's perspective.

I like the full lume and not just the 3, 6, 9 of the 39mm. I'd go for the 36mm OP.

36 and red grape. I fancy one myself and although I find the 39 a slightly better size I found the face much nicer on the smaller version with the double batons and no coloured dots and it didn't wear too small either.

That and the previously mentioned odd colored dots are what halted me from buying a 39 OP I think Rolex fell short with the 39 dial design and options. Of the three though the Rhodium would be my choice.

Between the 116200 and OP39, I would pick the 116200 because of the date.
OP36 or OP39?......no brainer..... : the OP39mm-Blue face.

If you really like the 36 steel dial version, I would just order it from your AD and enjoy when it comes in. I don't think it would take too long, since these aren't in super high demand.

I can see this bothering me after a while. That is another reason I'm leaning toward the 36.

36 in steel, all day. The full lume dial, and the discreet size, make it look perfect. That exact model is on my must-have list.

I amazes me that people seem to care about lume. Look at the dial! It's stunning.

To me the dial on 36 is more balanced and classic, while 39 is more sporty.

See which one makes you smile the most.

I recently bought a Explorer 1 with short hands, while I could easily get a newer one with long hands. I *liked* the white gold 3/6/9 version better and bought it, regardless of what everyone else thinks. Buy the watch that makes you feel like you got what you wanted.

Depends if you plan on selling it in the near to mid term. I expect the 39 to have more resale value and a much bigger pool of buyers than the 36.

Agree, too small.

That and the color plots that, imo, stand out way more in pics than in person

Disagree, not too small. It looks correctly sized for a dressier watch which may have a less imposing presence than a sports watch without appearing undersized.

However, I don't think the 39mm would be too large.

It's a matter of taste between the two and the OP's taste is the one that matters. Either will do, but which does the OP keep coming back to? That's the one.

39mm for sure, although grape is nice too. Never liked it at first but it's grown on me and find it rather cool and interesting.

Thanks for your opinions, everyone. They are very helpful.

I think the reason the 36mm looks so small to some is because of the current trend of larger watches.

Personally, I see the 36mm as pure class. I'm only in my late 20s, but the 36mm size makes me feel a bit nostalgic of the classic gentleman's watch. It brings Brando, Grant, or Bogart to mind.

Yes! Very well put - that's exactly what I was thinking.

Plus, the lume sticks are fat and dull in daylight.

Whereas the white gold markers glow in the sun. Yet they disappear when tilted. They've got dynamics and considering you'd tilt the watch a bit to see those white gold hands, the white gold sticks come into view simultaneously. Elegant.

Didn’t you just say you had your mind set on a 36mm with steel dial? Then that’s the one you should get. They aren’t hard to get, so ask your AD to get it for you.
