If they indeed change the lettering to white it might be a reasonable ask.

I agree that this will be a Ltd edition so will always command a premium!

I'm sitting back to watch people pay a premium for the watch while it gets released for the next years with no major changes...like every other anniversary Rolex has done.

but its not a limited edition. In order for something to be a limited edition it must have a fixed # of production models. it is no different than the 50th anniversary submariner the Seiko MM300 50th anniversary is an example of a limited edition. 1000 made. |

I'm assuming all these new pickups are going at MSRP? Or is there discounting already?

The 16610lv was produced in great quantity for years afterwards with minor changes in font on dial/insert. Collectors/sellers blew up the market with increased value on the y and early f serials known as mk1 proposed as the true 50th anniversary....unless there are major changes...it's even harder to prove with random serials now...sorry I don't think this will be a one year special edition some people theorize it to be.

Interesting, thanks. No mater, I love them for themselves and not the perception - limited or otherwise. They're just my thing! :-)

I was approached on Instagram earlier this evening, by a local jeweller offering me just shy of £12k for mine as long as it was stickered.. But as the others have mentioned, I too have a great relationship with my AD and wouldn't risk or ruin that for a quick buck.. (Even though it would be a nice holiday)

I predict this watch will level off pretty quickly. Once the initial demand does down, I expect to see decent discounts from our trusted sellers. I don't think this watch will command the same premium as the BLNR or Daytona C.

I am not sure revealing a source is the measure as to whether a statement is based on facts or not. Journalists base stories from unnamed sources all the time.

Who are the people paying thousands over list for these 'rare' watches?
Has anyone on here ever admitted to paying these prices? Just seems insane to me. First the DaytonaC, now the SD43. |

The Kermit has appreciated past Msrp. Rolex doesn't really do limited edition they just don't make a ton of certain watches. Like the original pre Daytona yachtmaster, the ss dd etc. if they change to white lettering these could be worth a small fortune in the future.

It's true the red font would command a premium.....and a big big if if it ever happens but of course not impossible, look @ the vintage 1680, 1665, 5513 etc.....but those also took many years and iterations before finally taking off the red font. And production was FAR limited in the vintage days compared to modern times. Hence the overall demanded premium and exponential pricing when ducks line up (originality, condition year, complete set, year etc).
Something to think about....any 5 digit/6 digit anniversary watches.....have we seen a change like this? You want to talk about 16610lv? What has really changed other than fonts in size and style? They didn't remove the green insert suddenly.......how about the 116506 platinum daytona? How many years has that been running without change? The green gold GMT? list goes on and on.....sorry I just don't believe the 1 year red font speculation. Completely agree Wes....the Daytona is a game Rolex has been playing off the lore of vintage Paul Newman days......and as much as anyone hates to refute it, the BLNR is justa huge hit aesthetically and happen to quench the thirst of a 2 tone GMT for modern/6 digit steel buyers. It's destined to go down as a classic in its own right. |

The only reference I would even consider paying ANY premium on would be a 1608, 1665 or 5513.
I wouldn't pay over retail for any modern Rolex, period. Just my .02 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
