Many Savy and Quick Witted remarks here...

I would say, David SW, Takuya, JustRolexes, BodyBump, Lawrence, and Sohail to name a few of the Great Sellers here on TRF.

I consider them my AD

I see some sellers selling papers with Van Cleef & Arpells (no mention on the dial like Tiffany) for more money than the same model with papers from a regular AD. So I was wondering if this actually matters.

P.T. Barnum summed this phenomenon up quite nicely.

Ayup.

I've been to the 5th Ave boutique and there is ZERO negotiation on any piece. My girlfriend was looking at a 34mm Date with engine-turned bezel that the salesman said had been sitting in their inventory for 5 years! I offered to take it off their hands since apparently nobody else had in such a long time.

They wouldn't budge a penny on price. I don't know who else would sit on a stainless steel Date model for that long and not give a few % off.

To the OP: it doesn't matter a lick from which AD you buy the watch.

I would give a slight edge to holidays in well known boutiques in major US cities. Aftermarket I would give a slight edge to bobswatches.com because they buy their pieces and have guarantees about 100% full rolex.

IMO Wempe both in NYC and Frankfurt. I cannot speak for other countries, but imo Wempe is the premier Rolex AD in NYC. For Patek it would have to be Tiffany and then the Tourneau on Madison but I really don't like how that Tourneau handles customers who aren't VIPs.

Well said

I have found that working closely with some AD's can provide for the ability to get your hands on the more difficult to come by, or allocated pieces.

The snobbier the AD, the better.

Dirty looks, watch and shoe checkouts, indifferent attitudes...

AD is like IRS, they will be glad to take my money, doesnt matter how or where they take it. What makes AD good is their customer service, discount, and if they can quickly get me the next SS Daytona or SD50 :)

Always happens.

That said, it's interesting that some will place a value on the brick and mortar seller who carries the same bloody watches!

In the Los Angeles area, the Rolex boutique (operated by Geary's) in Beverly Hills has one great advantage: inventory. Just about every variant you can imagine. If you want to see a particular watch in person, that's the place to go. Geary's has another Rolex boutique in Century City, but the inventory is not as complete, as far as I could tell from gazing about.

There will be no negotiation on price, of course...

That may or may not be an issue. Many ADs don't negotiate on price, at least with certain models...sports models in particular, certainly not high demand watches like the Daytona Ceramic.

It isn't my preferred AD. I favor a small Ben Bridge shop in a suburban mall, in Thousand Oaks. Why? Over the years, I've bought a few pieces there and developed a rapport and friendly relationship with the staff there, particularly one sales lady.

Thanks to her, last year I was fortunate to get an unexpected call that the store might get its hands on a Daytona Ceramic and, if so, was I interested? I was and walked out of that shop a few days later with that wonderful watch, paying the retail price and not a cent more...or less!

If they are Rolex ADs, they have to meet and maintain certain standards, so I don't know that any are more prestigious. Some may be larger or smaller operations, with larger or smaller inventories.

In the end, the person who deal with is the one that matters.

I think it was mentioned a couple times in this thread. The only time i have seen it matter in a slight premium is when Tiffany and Company carried Rolex and it was stamped on the dial. Other than that I believe a Rolex is a Rolex.

"Prestige"?!? What does that even mean, in this context, in the present-day? In whose opinion? Why would you care what anyone thinks of anything you do or buy, including watches? The only possible relevance is in the hope to find an idiot down the road when you're looking to sell your watch...

Just get the best possible price from the non-AD source of your choice and carry on. A warranty card is a warranty card.

Doesn't matter a jot. I will shop where they give the best discount, I don't drink champagne or cocktails, being British, a nice cup of tea would be nice.

Still these two are the most prestigious Veblen stores in the world I suppose.

I'd say Harrods in Knightsbridge, London.

I have been told that it's "extra desireable" if the watch was originally supplied by Harrods.

That wouldn't bother me however.

Would these warranty cards increase the resale value of the watch in years to come or is there no significance to this? I personally do not think there is, however I still want to consult with my fellow TRFers and see what you guys have to say.

Thanks!
