My first Rolex, a gold Date, was a gift from my Mom, which I used every day for several years. After 2 years I dinged it pretty good while making a swing set for my sons.

I stopped wearing it and Mom noticed I wasn't wearing it, and I told her the reason.

She said "wear it. That's why I gave it to you!". She was right so I wore it continuously for several more years, a total of 11, till I bought a $200 Citizen which has been my everyday watch for 20 years till this month. I now wear the gold Rolex for special occasions.

My SubC, after only 3 weeks has several small superficial scratches which almost all come from my laptop. Annoying, but it's what comes with wear.

A few scratches must have come from keys I wear around my neck on a lanyard.

You make a choice, wear and get wear, or don't wear and admire once in a while.

While you wear it, you can be careful but ultimately life gives a watch dings and scratches.

Even without scratches or dings, it will get wear in the form of looseness in the band.

I notice the band has twice the slop as only 3 weeks ago, when I compare the gaps with the photos of new watches.

That's life! I love wearing it, if I want a museum specimen I can always buy another!

In fact, I'm thinking about getting a GMT Master II in (black) for just that purpose.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy a gold watch.

Don't buy an all gold model. The wear marks on that would probably make you go crazy.

Ouch...that sucks. But, as been stated above, it's not the end of the world and does happen, unfortunately.

X2. Scratches are one thing, dings and gouges can be tough to not see. It just depends on how picky you are.

I took it to my watchmaker and he had it laser weld'ed and it was $70. I was so happy I gave him $100. Use that as a reference point for what you should be paying.

Have it fixed as soon as possible it's a new watch. Don't pay big $$ for it.

One of these may be more relevant than the other. I'll just see myself out.
OK, you know she didn't write the first one, right?

It's a ding, get it fix d in 5 or so years at the first service.

It's a material item. Don't sweat it too much... adds character. I say this having some experience freaking out about such things in the past. Now I realize its all about perspective.

The lesson here is the scratch always looks far worse to the owner...to everyone else it looks far more benign. Just have a nice drink in the evening and enjoy life.

Looks good imo, dings add character. when you get it serviced in a couple years they'll polish it away making it probably 70% less noticeable. Don't sweat it bud, it's a stainless steel tool diving watch, enjoy it!

As others have said, Rolex service can fix the ding. Please do not let anyone else work on your watch. If it were my watch, I'd send it off to be fixed immediately. Otherwise, you will be looking at that ding all the time.
I agree on the doorway! I hit mine all the time and the metal hardware on the frame is just in the wrong place! Got my first ding and scratch in my SD like that!

Just like everything...It gets better with time...and some alcohol!

I got a ding like that about one month after getting my watch. Annoying at first but I don't notice it now. If you send it off to get fixed you'll get dings to replace the first when you get it back.
