No one has ever asked me where I bought my watches.........but if it was a trusted seller or other merchant and I felt the transaction worthy of a referral I would certainly show them were to go online..........and show them this forum.

Yes I have, and it it was from my local authorized Rolex AD after they offered only $2,500 for a vintage Rolex diver that a TRF seller offered $9k towards the same trade!

This peaked my interest....now did the AD really know the true worth of that watch or they were they just trying to rip you off and make a fast buck on your watch as well. My question is how many non wis who just want to update their Rolex have fallen for this one.

If I was asked the question, I would have to say I got it from an AD as living in the UK I haven't really got the option to buy from a trusted Seller of TRF

I wished I had as the usual sellers who come up here seem very trust worthy and offer a great service.

I wouldn't mind telling people if I had bought off them.

I know several Rolex owners and only one mentioned where he bought his, a pawn shop. He's very wealthy, just extremely frugal. I've never been asked about mine and would never ask. Oh, just remembered another friend bought his first in a Navy exchange. He is a collector and has some beauties. He volunteered the information.

LOL - I got a look of incredulity at an AD when he asked where i bot my blue Pelagos and then a sneer when I told him how much I paid:-) and thats a relatively cheap watch:-)

the only way I can logically see this question coming up is if your friend was interested in getting one as well and figured you might have the inside scoop.

I have gotten the question from AD's thou once or twice.

I don't recall being asked, but if I were, I'd just say "I got it used."

If pressed, depending on my mood, I might say "Internet guy" or "Craigslist".

Ads have asked me. I usually say from a trusted seller on the internet. They gave give me a look. I told them it's no different than the buyer they refer me to since they don't take trade ins. What's the difference between their trusted buyer and my trusted seller?

What kind of AD asks you this? Why do they care? What does it matter? Furthermore, what kind of AD asks you this and then 'looks at you skeptically'?

Have had it happen to me several times. They ask if I have bought from them or if I bought the Rolex I am wearing from them. I tell them no. They ask where I got it. I tell them I bought it online BNIB. They tell me that isn't possible, it has no warranty, it likely is fake, Rolex doesn't allow discounting how did I get it that cheap etc. I just laugh.

No joke, really? That's absurd to me. Not to mention is incredibly off putting if you were genuinely interested in another purchase while in said store.

I can understand if they simply were inquiring if you purchased from them, would be aware you're a previous client, etc.......but anything further than that seems completely out of line and unnecessary.

I have had several people ask where I buy my watches. Some are family that just wonder and some are friends that like watches and have gone to see my guy. Do they all buy, no. Have some bought, yes. No Rolex but other brands. I think some people are just genuinely curious about where one would even go to buy watches like ours knowing full well we probably don't get them at Kohls.

Yet many people seem to be having trouble fathoming the possibility of this occurring. God forbid a good friend or family member takes interest in your watch or shoes, and would just like to know where something like that might be purchased at a good price.

Yes - and, ironically, the person asking knew of TRF, as well as DavidSW (who I bought my GMT Coke from), and so it was a very good conversation.

I have never been asked. Most of my friends/family are not WIS (well, neither am I in the true sense of the word), and they assume purchase is from a store, which I have done many times from my local ADs. Since being on TRF and doing a few transactions here with different TSs, I still don't advertise that fact much. I tell them that *if* they are in the market for a new watch, to check with me and I may be able to lead them to some savings. There is no reason to discuss / justify unconventional methods of purchasing the watch with those who are NOT in the market.

I've been asked by friends a few times. I think the idea is that a Rolex is so special and valuable, it must be hard to get.

I also get asked by AD's all the time, but that's because my BLNR has a clear caseback on it and it's their method of trying to smoothly let me know that I have a fake watch. I always find it funny and a little disappointing when a person who sells watches for a living can't tell that my watch is genuine.

I always say my watch guy is in Atlanta. That is SoHAIS he is in Atlanta. Very popular trusted seller here. I've gotten all my Rolex watches from him. What I do hate is when they ask me..."is it real?"

Never been asked if my watch is a fake, but I already know what my answer would be if asked, of course it's a fake (lol), do you think I could afford a real one !!

Rarely does anyone ever comment on my watch much less ask about where and how I purchased. I've had 4 excellent TRF trusted seller transactions so far.

The only people asking are the ones that are at least as materialistic as me.

I've sent and received far more money than my watches are worth (for cars and airplanes) to/from folks I've never met. I research them thoroughly and gauge their trustworthiness from reviews (to the extent possible) and the quality of their presale communications. Thus far, I've never been burned (knock wood).

As far as others' skepticism of my watches' provenance, I couldn't possibly care less. You know what opinions are like...and everybody's got one.

I have purchased two from DavidSW. I was visiting an AD and the saleslady asked where I got the one I was wearing. I told her from a trusted seller online. She told me that she could guarantee it was either stolen or fake. I just laughed and said thank you.

I'm not sure how I'd react or what I would say to someone asking such a specific question as to 'where' I purchased any of my Rolexes? To date, no one has asked such a question. Beyond that, my watches (while noticed) are seldom even commented on or acknowledged. I reckon a good answer would be, "I got it from a guy who knows a guy." :)

Funny while not quite the same I have a related story.

In the last year I told two different "friends" (coworkers), that they should let me know when they are going to pull the trigger because I can make sure they get a great price. It wasn't some sort of brag, with both of these guys I have talked watches before numerous times because they had initiated conversation about my watches when we were out.

Both of them ended up walking into the local AD and basically paying list + tax for common SS pieces. Before you say AD vs Grey....I told them I have a connection at the AD

Not to mention my best friend who consulted me about a car lease only to jump the gun the next day and pay like 300 a month over fair market because he couldn't pick up the phone and run the numbers by me

To answer your question yeah I think people assume you got taken when you say I bought it on a forum lol
