My take on this is half of us think you paid too much and half think you didn't... And its really now a discussion investigating if a great example is worth a strong premium.
Clearly you fall within the half who are of the worldview that a great vintage example is worth a real premium. Also, it seems from your comments that you probably wont hold on to it forever. I say, even if you sell before its J curve plays out you wont be taking a tragic hit. One thing is for certain, its SUPER NICE! Wear it! |

IMO, the guys at HQM have a really good handle on market trends. You got a fairly rare watch. You have to pay a premium for the product you purchased. I think the price is fair. It's definitely a keeper!

If you're asking because you plan to turn around and sell it then I think you overpaid. If you're asking because you want to know if you got a fair value for your money then I think you paid market value with a little bit of a dealer premium thrown in.

Jacek is as fair they come IMO. you paid market for a rare watch. personally if spending close to $30K on something I would want to feel absolute joy when looking at it when wearing it. if you don't, then.....

For me, condition is everything, regardless of configuration and perceived desirability due to relative rarity. And regardless of who's selling it.
It seems the peachy examples, of even references and configurations originally made in larger numbers, are very rare these days. Possibly as rare as the ones produced in fewer numbers. So-called 'basic' models (that really annoys me - they are all just as basic unless they have complications - it doesn't get much more 'basic' than a MilSub, by definition) vs the 'special ones'. A chapter ring may be beautiful and perceived as more desirable, but it's not 'horo-logically' superior. It's not 4WD or turbo. Also, let's not confuse "quality" with "condition". They're all Rolex - they're all the same quality.

That's a kick ass watch man. Seems whenever I'm looking for nice gilt gmts, prices are always high. Sure you can find some beaters for low teens but you got a really cool and nice piece. I say keep it unless you need the cash , in that case return it and say you made amistake purchasing it.

Tough call, a rare watch and certainly commands that price in today's market (as others mention, HQ has a firm handle on pricing....they're no strangers to the game) so I guess the question just comes down to which watch calls to you more. Personally I'd keep the 1675 compared to the other Patek you're looking at as the vintage should hold better value. I don't see the vintage drive going anywhere anytime soon.....0 personal agenda...in fact hurts me to say as a late starter to collect vintage pieces....

Could you post some of your own pictures, would love to see it on your wrist.
If 30k is a drop in the ocean to you, I would keep it. |

Dunno about the watch - you're buying a much rarer example than any of my watches, many of which are liberally peppered with service parts and valued to reflect that - but I've bought four watches from HQM (Jacek) and never been anything less than delighted with his goods or service. I'm wearing one from him right now. Best of luck with your choice

Well as mentioned before the market values perfection over rarity (especially dials) so prepare to spend big if you want something nice.
Only rare exception (for me) is if I find something that maybe is not in the best condition but has a lot of charm and patina, and it is destined to be a real daily beater

You bought the watch and it is now your watch.
We all have different thoughts on the models we like otherwise we would all wear the same watch, drive the same car, ride the same bike, wear the same clothes etc. Enjoy wearing it because if you send it back you will kick yourself down the track.
