Aside from going to the gym to stay fit and feeling good, I think it is important to do some soul searching and think of what you really want out of life. Not in terms of material possessions, but what moves you and what drives you. Work towards those goals and as you achieve more, you will begin to feel good about yourself and what you have accomplished. I have found that for myself and others around me, the ones who are most confident are the most fulfilled, whether due to devoting time towards helping others, an exciting career, someone to share your life with, etc.

Upbringing and life experience. Luckily as of now I don't suffer from anxiety or depression. That could change at any point I am sure.

Self Confidence/ Self Worth

Anxiety can be a bitch. It's tough to deal with. I've temporarily used Xanax in the past...not a fan. Someone told me years ago....95 percent of the things we worry about never happen. 4 percent we can't control. Only focus on the things I have the power to change. I also find keeping a hand written list of things I need to do and then crossing them off once completed soothes me a bit. As for OCD...man I drive my poor wife nuts with that. I've got my closet sorted by colors...and sock drawer. Had an anxiety attack once when I bordered a flight. Sat down in my seat and and got the sweats and chest pains. Thought I was having a heart attack. I got up and left the plane. Missed my flight. Wound up spending the night in Chicago and flying out the next day.

I suspect that there is a very high % of OCD sufferers on this forum.

That can range from mild (overly infatuated with the alignment of a Sub bezel)...to severe (debilitating obsessions and corresponding compulsions that deeply impact lives)..

I battle self worth daily. If I'm honest, it makes me feel better for about 2 seconds if I belittle someone. Then I feel like shit for the next few hours! What helps me the most are my regular customers who come to me because I am goodat what I do. That gives me a feeling of value. That said, I tend to back slide once or twice a week with some prick or another that, in the moment, I feel deserves it (usually belittling my staff or another customer,) but like I said, I feel like shit for it later. You never know what has made that person act that way that day and we all have bad days, there's no need to compound theirs.

To know the future is to be trapped by it

I come across that in my own self sometimes and I feel the same way. How much it hurts when you yourself are belittled.

I try to keep in mind Hemingway's words: "There’s nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man. True nobility is being superior to your former self."

Like everyone else, I have my fair share of anxiety and churning of the stomach feeling. What I was taught by a Buddhist monk was to learn to take deep and slow breaths constantly. In fact, I have a little sticker on my monitor at work to remind me of that. I try to take do this deep breathing exercise as often as I can, especially when I get those real challenging moments throughout the day. Try it guys, it does help, a lot!!

Keeping perspective, and being comfortable with one's self works best for me.

Self Confidence/ Self Worth

This thread has got some great responses, thank you all and for your honesty I know it's not easy to admit at times when you are struggling.

Not seen as the manly thing to do although thankfully that is changing slowly.

A lot have said about being comfortable with yourself and in your own skin..........I would love be able to achieve that but I'm pretty good at self loathing.

I've gone through phases of buying countless material objects trying to find the one thing that will change things but learnt that that is not the answer for me.

It's a cycle, and energy begets energy.

It all starts with one step. Start the journey away from self loathing with one step

No, I don't agree.

Do 'some' people go from coward to 'aggressive animal'? Possibly. Never witnessed it yet myself.

My point in saying 'hit the gym' means to start working out, if it includes your local gym - so be it. Weakness is just that = weakness. Mentally OR physically. If your weak, GET STRONG. This world is tough on strong people, even tougher on weak people.

Another consideration. When you free (or rid) yourself of the need to impress others, various stress, anxiety and depression issues are greatly reduced.

Very discreetly said, hugely beneficial - I'm sure
