Hi jimmy welcome to the forum....let me tell you something some people have their own interest...some are cars some are houses it could be anything...you might think spending $10k on watch seems rediculous... you might be thinking why would you spend $10k on a watch??? Its a ROLEX?? so what...it doesnt seem to be reasonable to spend that much on a watch...Some people might think spending money on a boat or a BMW seems crazy too...people here might want an old truck and wear a submariner and make them feel happy...I have a friend and he owns a 4 restaurants he doesnt have a BMW but drives a Honda and he doesnt have a Rolex watch and wears a regular watch...but Dude this guy has 4 restaurants!!! and he lives in St. Andrews in Boca raton Florida (houses starts $1m) so there you go..just different interest...

Who are all of you buying these watches, because the pictures posted here don't look like you are rolling in the money. Are you drug dealers, inheritance brats, or posers buying used Rolex's to show off?

I guess I've just always considered a Rolex someone the ultra-rich bought and was out of the reach of regular folks. I've never been a jewelry connoisseur. My wife's engagement ring is the most expensive piece I've ever purchased, and I couldn't understand why I had to spend so much on something for her finger!

I hear what you are all saying... It's all about passion. You love your watches. If I decide to purchase one I will need to be passionate about it because it would be something that is beyond my means for a time keeping device... but it sure does look nice!!!

Welcome to the forum.

If you can afford a boat, a device that can accomplish nothing but recreational fun, you should be able to afford a watch. In 50 years, a Rolex will be worth more than your Harley, BMW, and boat combined.

Funny thing is that nobody has noticed my watch and everybody is telling me that it looks like a 300-500 euro watch nobody could ever imagine that it retails for 5500 euros if they wouldn't see the brand on the dial

Go figure

But to be brutally honest rolex SS watches are quite stealthy

I always considered a boat and motorcycle activity toys that I can use and enjoy with others. Going for rides, rallies, fishing or weekends on the Vineyard. I just considered a watch for telling time. I seldom see friends hanging out together playing with their watches... lol

I'm in Real Estate development. Have a fast boat a Harley a bunch of fast cars and a few Rolexs my Daytona being my favorite. The key here is that I am single(wife passed away about five years ago) and I have no kids.

I didn't mean it like that...I said that because you said you can't see yourself spending $10,000 on a watch. If you don't want to spend the money, get a used watch.

Thanks to Peruvian law, anyone who works in a mining company gets a really nice bonus twice a year. I save most of it and buy a toy or two before saving it. Also, since I am an EXPAT I do not pay for a house nor a car. Its all given to me. So since I do not spend any money on a car or rent or mortgage I buy little toys (iPhone, Xbox, watches, chess lessons, etc.) as an excuse.... I am in my early 30's but right now only like little toys not Beemers nor DHs. I buy watched because I really appreciate them!!!

When you come to a forum filled with crazies that spend what most people would think of as a completely "off the page" amount of cash on hobby X, it's good to remember that they probably aren't spending the same amounts of cash in ALL the other areas. In other words, some of us don't give a rat's ass about boats or motorcycles and that permits a bit more craziness in the watch realm.

Hey Jimmy, welcome to the forum :) My only response is priorities. Sounds like you're making decent money, but if you have a wife and kids you could be making ten times that and still not have the disposable income to spend 10k on awatch :)

My father has always said that it is his goal in life to make enough money to live the same lifestyle as his wife and kids He makes over half a mil a year. :)

And that is the exact reason i'm not married and don't have kids.. yet, anyways.. :)

And hey, you have a boat. I've thought about buying a boat on many occasions, but I just can't bring myself to do it, for the same reasons you can't bring yourself to buy a watch :) Many of my friends have boats, and they only get used a few times a year. One of my them tried selling his boat and he could barely give it away. I enjoy my watch every day, and if I ever had to sell them I expect they would sell quick and for a decent return. <knocks on wood>

I actually have decided...

I want the Day Date II in Platinum... that that ain't happening!!!... $53k!!!

My next choice is the Daytona black or white face stainless steel.... $11k

Most likely I buy a DateJust with black face, Luminova hands, applied Luminova markers, not sure on the Oyster bracelet or Jubilee bracelet, not sure on smooth or fluted bezel. I'm seeing around $5k for this configuration.

I'm seeing I should only purchase from authorized dealer as I want new and wouldn't be able to tell a counterfeit.

The way I look at it is I can enjoy my watches every day of the year, the same cannot be said about a Harley or a boat. As far as the BMW goes, I'd rather have a Porsche

I suspect you could be a reverse snob! You criticise us for buying a quality premium product, yet have the front to drop a name or two with regard to your own purchases! Nevertheless welcome to the forum........i think!

I agree wih you matt...i jhave a friend that owns a boat for 12 years and no buyers...the maintenance of owning a boat ...monthly payments of docking it can buy you a watch every six months...
