exactly... you said you admit you did not handle this right.. just give john a sincere apology and move on.

I just bought a Sub right off of Johns wrist that same day...without the papers or box. He said he will bring all of that down next time he comes down to LA. I trust the guy 1000%. And I would buy from him again anytime. Hes a great guy.

being taken care of behind the scene? please stop fooling members..
after all, i sent him a msg regarding the GMT sale, asking him to stick to original deal since he knows about my past sales history. offered to take his cashier's check at his bank. replys, his friend just picked up an IWC at swap meet for him??? so he needs to flip that to get the funds.
from his responses and excuses, this deal was never going to complete unless i took his check. lot of what his saying does not make sense at all.
first his deposit never cleared so cant get cash to I my self didn't look trust worthy so bailed...hmmm
reference check on buyers is going to take place in my end from now.

AJ should not have wasted John's time and it is very clear.

He could have offered to make a wire transfer if he was SO serious about buying.

So let us all conclude that AJ is just a time waster.

ajmartin, it is so easy to back out of a deal without compromising your credibility... you made a mistake... you could have just said you didn't like how it felt on your wrist and back away, period.. by doing that, you did not compromise your credibility..

Trust, but verify. I understand the anxiety that can go with this type of transaction. This past winter, when I was on a quest that eventually led to my Expy2 acquisition, I contacted someone off Craigslist who was selling a Submariner. We agreed to meet at an AD in downtown Milwaukee that he had previously had the watch verified at. I'm in town on business and show up wearing a suit. He comes a short time later looking frumpy and has poorly concealed his S&W J-Frame revolver in his coat pocket. I looked at the watch - it was in ROUGH shape and would need a service, and backed out of the deal. He was understanding. I later e-mailed him to let hime know that he should do a better job of concealment if he was going to illegally carry a handgun. I ended up getting my Expy2 from my AD for the same price as this guy originally wanted for his Submariner. MUCH more comfortable bringing in a large sum of cash to an AD.

While I haven't dealt with them personally, I KNOW there are many trusted sellers here on TRF and would buy from them. Again, it goes back to TRUST.

Maybe he should stick to a less expensive brand. Shouldn't have to go to the swap meet to get your funds.

I have no horse in this race...

Cash is king and it sounds as if the "face to face" buy was agreed on to be CASH ONLY. Both buyer and seller knew the terms, and the buyer balked after the seller drove many hours to make the sell happen.

Seller = Solid

Buyer = Flake

Just my two cents...

What I don't get is that if you were willing to have a teller hand him a cashier's check in your presence, why wouldn't you just have the teller hand him the cash that he wanted in the first place. The exchange would and could have been done in the relative safety of the bank premises, and everyone would have been happy.

I am quite sorry that this transaction did not work out for either the buyer or seller. However, I will say this... Several months ago I had an Omega Planet Ocean for sale and posted it here on TRF. Andrew J. Martin contacted me, we negotiated a fair price, and we met in person. The transaction went very smoothly and there were never any issues... ( Like most TRF members, I had done quite a bit of homework to ensure that I was going into a legitimate transaction).

In all fairness, Andrew seemed like a "stand-up" guy. I hope that both members are able to learn from their experience here, and that both can move on without further disagreement.

HKPerf - geez, get a life and move on. I didn't steal your money or try to cheat you out of your watch. You texted me before your last post (10/19/08) asking me to buy the watch in exchange for getting the moderator of this forum to wipe out this thread. I tell you that I already bought another watch and no longer have the cash - wow, that is certainly weird. Imagine that - I already lined up another deal after you flamed me and accused me of being a scammer even though all I did was back out of a deal.

And you must be right AGAIN!! Yup, I must be a jerk because you were kind enough to give me a second chance to buy your GMT and I came up with yet another excuse not to buy it. You then call me and "warn" me that you have lots of friends on this forum and I will pay for my decision not to buy the watch from you. You and your friends certainly go far to pressure someone to buy a watch or flame him. I certainly feel better about my decision not to buy from you.

HKperf has a great rep on here (as far as had been made public).

The buyer could have handed cash over in the bank.......virtually no risk. Leaving a person that has driven out of their way, without even a "no thanks", is really not kosher.

Andrew Martin~!!
we've all moved on and know you made a mistake or certainly handled this in unethical way and please stop posting trying to justify your actions by making me look bad.
If you couldn't gain enought trust to deal face to face with a known member with many positive references then, your best option for purchase is AD.
END.

Hey I was over it. You started it up again with your 10/19/08, post and left me no choice but to provide the full story. I limited my reply to your 10/19/08 post. There are always two sides to a story even on this forum. And with that ... I am done.

you might be misunderstanding the definition of full story and two sides.
its got to be REAL and TRUE!! many eyes here for your own analysed story..
i only reply to your analysed excuses so members don't misunderstand this. and I do have many friends here who were developed with honesty and respect of other opinions over times.
END IT AND MOVE ON!

Not at all. Here is the short story. I backed out of a sale. I could have handled it better. That in a nutshell is the full story! You tried to smear me which forced me to respond. Had you stuck to the simple truth this protracted discussion would have never occurred. So stop worrying about YOUR reputation by smearing me!

AGAIN, I admit it - I backed out of the sale and it could have been handled better. You did not try to scam me and I did not try to scam you. Isn't that the honest truth? Let's put this to rest.

I do not know either of you. I am not taking sides, but apparently you want someone to say you are right and he is wrong.

Fine. You are right and he is wrong. Feel better?
