Both groups have great brands. It's a shame that somebody would dismiss a brand because they're owned by a group, but I guess some people are just into the name, not the actual watches.

Well Swatch has Blancpain and Blancpain has the FF so it kind of has to get my vote and I'm a big GO fan also. On the other hand Richemont has JLC so I'm calling it a tie. But I like others would greatly prefer these great makes being indies still. Have to admire the few that are.

I don't think its bad for them specifically. If they were not part of a group they would not exist most likely. IWC and JLC i believe helped get them started again and with out them they probably wouldn't be around today. That group was then acquired by richemont. Independence is preferred but not at the expense of not existing at all.

Neither. I will stick with the independents, Patek, AP, Journe, Mille. This is where 100% of my cash is.

Agree. I look at a time piece as a standalone. I don't care if its parent company is x or y group, and I certainly won't place more value towards a piece just because it is made by an entity that's "independent".

Just because one likes particular brands that happen to be independent, there is nothing wrong with that. Just like there is nothing wrong if you like corp owned brands.

I am actually into the watches first, then the fact they are independent is icing on the cake.

There is not a brand/watch that either Richemont or Swatch own that appeals to me. Can't help that. ALS is the only one that MAYBE would, but the after market on them is so bad, that it's not a great financial decision.

I buy watches I like and it so happens they are all independent.

Can't argue that.

We all show our support with our pocket book. Buy what you like and enjoy.

Richemont if I had to choose but I do own an omega. One day I would love to own an ALS, and I hope to finally get to wear my JLC before too long (it's getting the movement restored.)

To know the future is to be trapped by it
