The Rolex of cars

If Rolex has to be a car, I agree with it being Mercedes Benz, certainly not a Porsche. Another indicator of this; the best-selling Rolex model is the Lady Datejust and therefore cannot be discounted in the equation. Not many women wander into Porsche dealers, drive 911s, or even want one. Wanting/buying/driving a Mercedes Benz, however, is another story.

That being said, comparing them to cars is just silly because my Rolex are airplanes.

I believe if we are talking about the facets/values of a company, then the argument may be a bit easier....but then we end up in the world of comparing corporate performance in some cases which throw things off again.

Rolex in my eyes would need to be related to a company that has immense focus on brand identity and quality control as well as staying firm to select timeless designs. As far as car companies which have a flagship vehicle where modifications were solely for the advancement of performance-based innovation, I'd definitely jump into the Porsche:Sub comparison bandwagon.

Rolex have entry models same as Mercedes, but also have platona which could compare to amg models or SLS

Clearly the better thread would be what type of cheese each watch brand would be. Ranked cheez wiz all the way through the finest brie

Cars are much too boring

Jean-Claude Biver even makes his own cheese so he doesn't count as his cheese is much better than his watches.

The reliability of a Honda with the luxury brand power of a Mercedes.

Definitely not a Porsche. A Porsche is just a sports car to the average person. The average person doesn't consider a Porsche a luxury car.

Mercedes is known to be an expensive car in the same way that a Rolex is known to the average person to be an expensive watch.

I also don't understand why this topic comes up so often. It's nonsensical.

Great idea, cheese is much better to compare Swiss watches to. For starters, there's no such thing as Swiss Car, and even if there was, you can't make fondue out of it.

Sometimes I think of watch brands as certain bands/singers and the models are various songs they perform. For instance, a JLC Reverso Tribute Rouge is Roxy Music performing Jealous Guy and an IWC UTC TZC is akin to Shake Hands With Beef by Primus.

Most people don't know anything about cars in the same way they don't know anything about watches.

You could park a gt3rs next to a boxster and random person on the street wouldn't know the difference.

Not in the way a Rolex or Mercedes for cars is perceived.

People here talk about Rolex as a tool watch that should be used as such. So some people will be sad to learn that many of the cars listed here don't quite fit that description

I agree with the Volvo comment. Both are well built and will last a lifetime but neither are exactly full blown luxury items

Lexus...entry level luxury and reliability. They have some higher end models like the LFA/PT daytona but they also have the 4wd SUVs that can be more like tool watches.

If Rolex were like a Mercedes or Ferarri, wouldn't you have to sell it when the warranty expires ?
