Early Panerai Radiomir cases were designed by Rolex and the watches used Rolex movements. Panerai were military suppliers from 1930s - 1990s. @OP - I would hang on to the 389 and maybe switch out the strap to freshen its appeal (one of the fun aspects of Panerai ownership). Taking a big hit and then buying another watch that will also depreciate (if not as much) makes no sense to me. Nice to have some contrast in a collection.

Keep the Panerai and just wear it. They're beautiful watches.

You have already taken the hit, you just have not realized it yet.
You are not wearing it, sell it and move on.

I don't have blnr but have coke gmtii and it's my most worn watch by far. I'm sure you'll love blnr. As for panerai, it's a shame about their depreciation. I get the crown and whole ugly aspect as some think, but still I personally like it for its uniqueness. As a matter of fact I was looking at submersible just recently while looking for divers watch. Hell id take it from your hands for 3k, but if I were you I'd keep it.

That's about the most favorable view of panerai you could have. How many of those years did they continuously make watches? Farm equipment and other stuff doesn't really count.

I'm a fan of Panerai. I wear them out of love for the brand and the timepieces themselves. No one puts a gun to your head to make you buy them. Wear what you love and love what you wear

Yep. That's why I've stayed with Rolex. I don't ever plan to sell, but you never know. Buying right is also key. The only reason I have an AP is because it was an incredible deal. As long as I don't beat the crap out of it, I can flip it and get all my money back. However, it's my favorite SS watch and I have zero intentions of selling.

Given the shared heritage of Rolex and Panerai, it's disappointing to read the inevitable negative comments in these types of threads. Doesn't happen on P.com (about Rolex). Regarding value retention, Panerai does no worse than many other brands.

Flip it and take the hit. It only hurts until you get a new watch.

I agree. Take the hit now - I decided to ''take the hit'' on 3 Breitlings under a year old and it was severe to say the least, but I bought 3 Rolex to replace them and I couldn't be happier.
Best wishes with your decision! |

I would more than happily swap my BLNR for a 389, although I'd more likely go 1389 now

I am a big believer that anything I own should serve a purpose. If I have something that is not being used, I sell it and replace it with something that gets used or just keep the money. Now if money is no object, then keep the stuff you don't use... But I've always felt that someone else may get more enjoyment out of something I am not so might as well let it go.

3k on a watch worth what? 6-7k? Yeah that's rough. I don't know if I could stomach that. Maybe try to sell it on your own?

I understand its a Rolex forum and I do own a rolex but people really bash panerai without the knowledge. Having said that they do depreciate faster and don't retain their value.
I definitely stirred up some feelings...... Maybe ill just get the BLNR and keep the Panerai.....what the hell lol |

Try to minimize your hit. Sell the Panerai privetly if you can and buy the BLNR slightly pre owned. There are deals out there for $8000 on the BLNR pre owned.
