Honestly, to me it would depend on my current collection. In my case, I don't have a large collection. I have some more watches that I wear for formal occasions. I have a 14060m two-line Sub that I absolutely love. I wear it daily but I'm particularly found of giving it wrist time in the summer, at the pool, on the beach. So the Yacht Master would get almost zero wrist time. But I could see the Milgauss frequently making the cut on workdays. If this is to be your daily watch, I have to agree with expat - if you're not sure don't buy until you are.

i just think the ym bling is too nice. the dial and bezel in the sun is striking.
for the money you can get the same watch in the new airk king for around 5k.

I personally never let anyone help me to decide on what watch to buy next. It is a personal decision only you can make.
I do wish though, that others would have helped me to decide on which girl to marry. Flipping them is bloody expensive

I actually think the blasted bezel and monotone look of the ym makes it quite low key as a Rolex as it almost fills down the flash compares to any of the ceramic models. Not that it is any way dull... I have always regretted selling my 16622, but the milg does offer clean cut edges and more reflection. Given they both have the same bracelets, I'm just talking about the watch heads here. The ym also feels a bit lighter whereas the milg has been top heavy for me. I've been through two GVs and one YM and I regretted selling both. Both a bit sufficiently different from the rest of the lineup. Not to take away from the others but these two do offer something a bit different in terms of look as opposed to any complication. I have been in exactly the same as you before. I would say though.. in a long term 'keepers' garage, the GV would defo have a spot as there just isn't anything quite like it. On the other hand I remember a few years ago momentarily mistaking from a distance a guys old fifty fathoms bezel for a ym. Just the once though ;)

Two very different watches, though bracelets are the same (PCL's oyster) Honestly I would let the price dictate my decision because I like both. I'd go with which one I got a better deal on.

Get the Milgauss. YM bezel u got to be careful it is a scratch magnet. Milgauss u can polish the bezel easily.

Yachtmaster. Also, the dial is not grey, it is platinum. I got my platinum stainless steel Yachtmaster in February 2001 and have worn it nearly every day. I disagree that the bezel is a "scratch magnet." Mine looks perfect, and I don't baby my watch. The PCL, on the other hand, have some scratches, as would be expected. That I still not unique to the YM, though. |

I think the ym has it over the other both in function and form, though I don't work milgauss type environment.

I doubt function is a deciding factor for most, I never get my sub wet. Even though we don't need a super anti magnetic watch these days I would certainly buy a milgauss on looks alone because I love it and it will be my next purchase. Go for the one you want to look at on your wrist.

YM for its unparalelled ability to mix sports and elegance.
Milgaus for being off the beaten path, funky, interesting. What do you need the most in your collection? |

For sure the Milgauss, its one of the coolest in the line-up. In my humble opinion the YM is the most pointless Rolex, so easy choice for me

Your answer has put me towards the Milgauss side, I do like the black dial over the blue. It is a very interesting watch and fits my style as well, the lightning is the coolest part. I do have a YM2 gold and Sub 50th as well. My wife does have a midsize YM1 and it's classy for a women to wear. I guess tomorrow when I go to the city, I will go hunting.

I'm with you .. I only own 1 Rolex ... and its a Black Milgauss GV .. my favorite watch. I also don't see why somebody would choose a YM1 over a GMT ... Now .. a GMT vs. Milgauss is a tougher decision ...

I would say the YachtMaster, in platinum or Rhodium dial. It is the only Rolex I've noticed at a distance on another, and couldn't stop looking at it. Gorgeous, but only really recognised by another wis.
I was never drawn to the zigzag second hand. I little comic on an engineers watch. If you are drawn to the Milguass, take a look at the DJ41 in white or black with a smooth bezel. It is not entirely dissimilar, and I think looks a little better. |

I still have not pulled the trigger and today the bank is closed, Columbus Day. I do have a 16610 with the LV insert and also with the original black. I also have a YM2 and my wife has the midsize YM1 w/ platinum dial. I am still deciding and I am grateful to have all the opinions I can get.
