Always such a funny thing with watches and my electric guitars/basses. I never want to make a single scratch, ding, or nick, in my new instruments or watches but I pay absurd prices for vintage pieces that are worn-in by strangers!

Regardless, glad she's enjoying the watch - and I have to say, I LOVE that dial. the explorer-style arabics add some fun to the typically austere air-king of that era. Beautiful indeed!

Even better than the wear visible on the watch is the fact that this wasn't even an issue in her mind.

Great read and like your wife, mine is also also very tough of things. Anything we get for her like that needs to be what we call "Heather proof" (LOL). Thanks for posting OP, glad to see the Rolex being worn as it's meant to be.

She has worn the watch every day for work and play. She does not have the same "wrist awareness" like many of us WIS do. The watch is fit well to her wrist, but she goes about like its not there. Sometimes, when sitting around the table telling stories, I can hear the watch knock into the edge of the table when she becomes animated. Although this makes me cringe, my outlook changed a bit today when I took a closer look. After a year of wear, the watch looks beautiful!!! Now I would never wear most of my pieces like this, but it should say something to the ones who worry about getting sand on their Submariner. In summary, these watches were made to be worn and not worried about. Cheers!

Great story and watch! My wife wears the EXACT same one. She however came about it a little differently. Almost 20 years ago I gave her a lady datejust with fluted bezel and jubilee band for her 30 birthday, she wore the watch endlessly, never took it off for anything. Fast forward to about 6 years ago, the watch pictured I gave my father for “just being my dad” kind of a thanks for all he’d done for me growing up. I chose this one as he would have never purchased a Rolex for himself and the subtleness of no date window was perfect for him. Unfortunately he only got to wear the watch for about 2 years, having lost his battle with a neurological disorder, at that time the watch came back to me and I asked my wife if she would like to wear it as the 34 mm is too small for me, she did and does not remove it for anything. She definitely does not “treat” them like I do mine, but she loves it nonetheless, once or twice a year I clean it up with a little cape cop on the case sides and give the bracelet a few strokes with the green scotchbrite pad, and it looks like new. I hand it back to her and say here’s your new watch and she says thank you it looks great. I stopped worrying about it long ago, I love the fact that she loves to wear what is a very sentimental piece, and it’s not sitting in a drawer somewhere forgotten about (kind of like the ole datejust)-hmmm by the way where is that watch

Yeah, my gmt2c LN I bought in May is collecting scratches, it bears them well. I never avoid wearing it in any situation, the thing feels indestructible and keeps perfect time, love it. I don't beat it up on purpose, just it inspires such no-nonsense toughness to me that I subconsciously don't worry about it.

My AP 26331, on the other hand -- I think I subconsciously baby it and I definitely avoid wearing it in potentially watch-threatening situations. I guess AP doesn't inspire the same toughness to me, no idea how correct/not correct that is in reality. :)
