Same here. I usually wear polo shirts or a long sleeve button down shirt with slacks and a nice pair of shoes. Sub goes great with that. I never wear a tie or a jacket to work.

However, I am going to an evening wedding in a couple weeks and I plan on wearing it with a jacket and tie.

Any watch I own can be pulled into duty for a shirt/coat and tie.

If it can't, it has no business in my collection.

Yes, I'm with you!

I work at a NYC law firm and in the summer I wear polo shirts, slacks, & shoes. Spring & Fall I usually go with a button down shirt, slacks, & shoes. Winter I usually go with a half zipper sweater and black jeans.

Any watch is great with business casual. A Sub, GMT, Explorer, Datejust, any diver, any field watch, etc. Even my Seiko green Alpinist!

Whenever I have to suit up (rarely) or wear a shirt /tie, I usually just go with a Datejust.

I personally wouldn't wear a Submariner or dive watch when when wearing a tie, that's just me. But the Rolex Submariner Date and the Datejust are very common at my firm, business casual or suited up. So lots of people I know wear the Submariner Date with a suit.

How many people own a Land Rover and never take it out of the city?

The only time I wouldn’t wear a watch of my choice in a situation is if the invitation specifically stipulated otherwise.

It’s not the James Bond nonsense or anything but it’s a bit like saying you can’t have red wine with chicken or fish. Whilst it might be protocol, for want of an expression, I don’t generally like white wine so won’t drink it.

Wear your Sub how and where you want unless it’s a formal occasion and the invite says don’t.

Do you wear SUBs, as a dress watch?

I have a BLNR that I wear most places. For a dress watch I use my Omega Seamaster 300 Coaxial. I think the cleaner dial, thin bezel and wider bracelet looks dressier.

Got a used 14060m. The Explorer is rated at 100m, and Rolex takes their depth ratings seriously, so you can definitely 'get it wet', and even dive with it.

Do get it pressure tested every year or so if you are swimming or diving with it.

Seriously, the thing I love about divers (and the Explorer or any other oyster case Rolex) is you can beat the crap out of them and still dress it up with a suit and tie. I've never really understood the compulsion to baby a Rolex, but to each their own I guess.

In this day and age especially, when anything goes, it certainly seems acceptable to me. Prince William wears his 36mm Omega Seamaster exclusively, and that includes some mighty formal occasions. That black dial and bezel look great with anything!

When I wear a tie the sub stays at home. It's really not a question of is it appropriate. I don't wear a tie often so I look at those moments as opportunities to dust off my dress timepieces and take them for a night on the town. :)

The smurf can go either way IMO. I find myself leaving the yellow gold versions in the box lately.

I realized this weekend that while I wear a suit and tie every day to work (usually with a Sub), I don't feel like I'm 'dressing up', just wearing a work uniform. This weekend I wore a coat and tie to a fancy art opening/cocktail reception-- something more elegant than my navy or grey corporate suit-- and I felt like my 70s dressy vintage deville on a croc strap felt right - more suited to a dress up occasion wear wearing something different. So maybe if I rarely sore a suit, I'd be more likely to pair it with something dressier when I did.

I'm a sports watch guy and I'm not going to force myself to wear a dress watch for dated etiquette that doesn't exist anymore. Some watch enthusiasts seem to have a false conception that everything revolves around their watch. Trust me, if you're in a well-tailored suit and are rocking some nice dress shoes, the vast majority of people aren't going to bat an eye on your choice of a dress watch.

Let's be real, it's a Rolex at the end of the day. If anyone notices your watch, they'll associate Rolex with dressiness to begin with. This goes double for the ceramic Subs. You can call it a tool watch, it can certainly be used as one but the thing looks like a piece of jewelry.

I'll even go full Bond and wear one with a Nato and suit. I'm sure men will scoff and women will not want to associate with me as I'll be labeled an unfashionable piece of trash for it 🙄.

Couldn't agree more, I work in technology where it would not be appropriate to wear a suit (actually almost every individual I work alongside has abandoned true timepieces for electronic eyes on their wrists). My treasured Sub I wear every day all day and through the weekend. So when I do seize an opportunity to don evening wear, I wear a dress watch. If I wore a tie in my work life I'm sure I would often wear the Sub.

Most of what I ever wear is suits, so yes, otherwise I wouldn't get to wear my sportier watches. I even do it with my Panerai occasionally, though I admit that's probably too much.

My 689 and I respectfully disagree that a Panerai is too much

SD 16600 all day, every day. No matter the activity or dress.

This is due in part to my collection philosophy: I COULD buy something to satisfy traditional dress norms, but I would rather wait and buy the PP that I really want. This will take me a while but will bring me more satisfaction.

For now I will go with the SD all the time, and I don't see a problem with that. Rolex divers go great with everything and the look as been approved by style influencers for the last several decades.

So whatever the reason, wear it.

And I respectfully agree that that's awesome. Good to see I'm not alone.

Just cause it grabs attention, doesn't mean it's bad.
