I didn't read the whole thread, but I was ready to dive in with a top level drone. Then I downloaded the B4Ufly app from iTunes, provided by the FAA. Realized I am in the middle of so many airports' airspace, that I could only use it on weekends, when away from home.

May still get one, but to fly in my backyard, I need to file an FAA flight plan.

Lake Hollywood park if you are in LA. It's a huge dog park with great shots of the Hollywood sign.

Hey Crystal, nice purchase, the Mav is a nice little drone. DJI does have that built in to their software, won't let you even start up in anything but class G airspace (basically). I do work for the FAA certifying drone operators to get their 107 license and will be glad to help. Are you anywhere near San Diego? I cant take you to my field and we'll fly yours and a couple of the big bad boys used in comercial drone ops, like an AerialTronics or the new Intel Falcon 8 plus; (those are both about 50K so we'll be careful ;). PM me if you need any help.

I bought a Mavic when they came out; they are awesome devices, pretty much flies itself. FYI- you don't have to register them any longer, that died quick.

I also have a Mavic Pro. To get the best footage out of it you really need to fly it a lot.
In Florida all lakes have gators, I tried flying one over an alligator, almost ate that thing.
