I would not have thought that there would be any advantage to buy from an AD here vs the US. There are a couple of grey sellers it may be interesting to check out. PM me if you want details

Thank you for the reminder. Yes we always claim the goods, most of the time they let us through with no added duties (extra bottle of whiskey for example). But I am sure a high priced item like watch would get a hit. Something to consider for sure.

But yes, I agree, everyone should keep customs rules in mind. US import duty for watches is officially 6%. Methods like wearing the watch and shipping box/papers are common but illegal

Thanks for the info.

Congrats to the mrs! My wife is eyeing a DJ31. She's not huge on the cyclops, like me, but loves a date. It's a tough call but I think this one is a good choice.

Thanks Tom. Hope your wife finds a Rolex that works for her

They just sale told low-movement models. Even 116610lLN they are 80% no stock, unless you a vip that bought a lot from them. quite shame for the AD in HK.

For a enormous store, heavily staffed, with likely a USD1mm++ monthly rental bill, the service is astonishingly poor - with the approach either being to do the Hong Kong shuffle (following 18” behind the customer, as if the customer is about to try to steal something) or to sit behind the counter fiddling with their phone, oblivious to the fact that there’s someone there who might want to buy something

The Rolex selection there is terrible. 90% TT models, and even among PM pieces, the selection is uninspired.

Yeah, it seemed like total incompetence and a waste of my time, so I walked out within 30 seconds

But I could also imagine local managers creating compensation packages that barely reward sales (thinking they are money-saving business geniuses) and then wondering why sales are so low

She has named the watch "Grape-y" and informed me that she "balls very hard" and "raps really hard" with her "rollie"

Oh sweet jesus

Grapey and wife are in Macau right now. The house may be winning at present, but she and grapey plan on "trying harder"

I think in HK you can go from one dealer to another without getting wet.

Hope that strategy paid off!

I just saw one of the purple dials at a nearby AD...they look great. Photos don’t do full justice to them
