It will be a watershed moment and end up being the most expensive watch ever sold. It will easily blow away the current record. Welcome to the mania.

Imagine the folks who bid and not win but still ending up with a really amazing story to tell for many years to come.

What's the amazing story?

I'm sure the kids and grandkids will be happy (grand)daddy didn't end up blowing 10 million on a watch, instead they can inherit it.

My theory for ages has been that it will go for about $9 million, but tomorrow will tell...

This is THE watch that is responsible for the bubble we are currently in.

IMHO I'm going over the 10 mill mark.

I would love Rolex to buy it for display purposes. Be a terrible shame if a billionaire collector picks this up as a box queen.

No offense to OP but I 100% do not care

The vintage sport Rolex hysteria is lame and being fueled by vested interests like Hodinkee, vintage dealers, and auction houses

Nobody can fuel the fire but buyers.
Others just fan the flames.

In the absence of media coverage, dealer guidance, and auction house estimates, how would the bidders have any indication of value? They'd probably be bidding on something else entirely, like art or real estate.

Very true....the market forces for vintage Rolex are very simple to determine....it's a well oiled and FOCUSED hype machine.

That being said, the PN Daytona will sell tonight for $30 million and the winning bidder would pay whatever it takes, so could be more..

That was a big call but I think only the bold bidding strategy stopped it being hammered at 20-30.

In general, the whole preowned Swiss Watch values are an inflated bubble IMHO.

But blaming aficionados and media misses the fact that anything old and/or collectible is rising too.

Just my 2¢

I've never understood this link between the value of an object and who previously owned it? I find it to be a sad commentary.
