Too bad the new ones are hideous. Weird bezel and bracelet. Can't we have a smooth bezel and black bay bracelet?

You can still get the 76200 we've been talking about in Hong Kong. The bracelet is still the Tudor Jubilee style, but that's easily fixable. See Adam's pic:

I actually really like the Prince bracelet; it's light and comfortable, with solid links - kind of a hybrid Oyster and Jubilee.

Functionally, it's fantastic, but I'm embarrassed to admit that I love the aesthetics of an Oyster bracelet so much that I bought a NIB Tudor 7836 bracelet with the folded links. This is my first folded links bracelet, and I can't believe how much I like it. Even compared to the "old" bracelets on my 16610, 16570 etc., it's so lightweight and comfortable, I understand why the vintage guys love them. It makes this watch feel like it fell out of a time machine from the '60s-'70s.

I instantly thought of the prototype Day Dates made in stainless. Glad the reference was found. Like they said for the SkyD, "It will never happen." In this case I'm pretty confident that is true. If Rolex is scaling back on stainless output as has been suggested then it makes no sense why they'd want another variant that they won't make. I'm thinking that they are trying to switch over as much as possible to precious metal watches and not the other way around.

Sure thing. There are several dial variations, and you can get either a smooth or fluted bezel:

Sadly the California dial has been discontinued, but I think I might pick up a blue stick and a black stick dial as safe queens with my next paycheck. And maybe another silver stick.

Yeah, I’m glad they’re not as easy to get over here in the states.

I never see this happening because the movement would be too robust (thick) to fit the essence of what the day date is... Don't get me wrong, the annual calendar of the sky dweller is amazing. What a clever way to sneak the month into a dial design. If they can make that happen in a day date and keep the clean thin look of a day date, in stainless steel, I might just have my Grail watch.

The tudor date + day are ETA 2834-2 movements.

ETA movements are large production swiss movements produced by the swatch group. So no, not in house Rolex. Yes, they are farmed out. ETA supplies movements to lots of brands. Those brands may decorate the rotor or dress them up, but the base movement is an ETA movement.

Yes, but the way that jlc shows the month is much different than the way the sky dweller does. I like the subtlety of the month indicator by the indices in the Sky dweller. You think they could make that watch sub 12mm thick? I'm sure they could... But would they.?

Thank you Sconnie. Let me see if I have this right. Rolex will make the case and bracelets and Swatch(Omega plus others) make the movements. I learned a whole lot tonight and thank you. Feeling better not having purchased a Tudor. Thx

Suit yourself. I have an incoming Tudor 76214. It's a great value. You get the same case as the original Rolex day date, same dial design, similar bracelet, and the only thing that you lose is Rolex on the dial, the precious metal (which I wouldn't want anyway) and the Rolex movement, which no one but you and your watchmaker will ever see because it's a solid caseback. And one more point, it's less than 1/5th the cost of a Rolex day date. I haven't handled it yet, but mine is due in Monday, and I think it's a bargain.

Adam, I am still looking for the Tudor 76200. (The dial is similar to the one you own.) Is it still able to get one in HK? If so, is it possible give me the name and address of the store. Thanks in advance.

Stock is always changing. Just go into any branch of Emperor or Oriental, and if they don't have one, they can call head office to see which branch does, or get one delivered same day.

Bought this for 100 dollars, automatic movement. Originally came on a leather strap.
