A friend of mine kinda had the same idea. He called it a quick infusion of cash in a pinch or a savings account on your wrist should you need a chunk of cash really fast

I had two friends get caught on a beach in Mexico smoking MaryJane. The police gave him a choice, either the Rolex, or jail! Needless to say he came home without his DJ.

I think it applies to cases where one needs to travel to countries that are just out from war whereby the situation is unstable and may deteriorate overnight, in such places , I believe having a Rolex will probably 'buy' you an exit at the 'gate' to cross the border to a safer country.

If u get a point where u need to barter with your Rolex to get u out of a tight spot....you either weren't prepared to begin with or u probably shouldnt be there in the first place

These days with with easy access to cash, credit and having ur smart phone to pay ....How many have actually had to barter their way out of bad situation with their Rolex ???!!??

Wow, the next thing will to buy an 'Extra Rolex' just for holiday in case of issues. Makes you a target that is ready to cave in and offer a Rolex as a present if the word gets around !

If you go somewhere trust me the locals know you are an outsider. Situational awareness and common sense are usually your best tools. In theory yes someone might take your watch, cellphone and wallet and let you live but who knows. They might just kill you and take it anyways. Best sound advice would be stay where its heavily touristy or populated. Don’t travel down streets or alleyways that are off the beaten path. And don’t flaunt your money.

For me personally I won't go anywhere I feel uncomfortable wearing it. If for whatever reason I had to, it would be left at home. That's just me, but I understand the logic behind it in a way.

I already felt safer when I know I can bargain with the thief (who targeted me because he saw i’m wearing Rolex) for my safety with the Rolex i’m Wearing.

If the place poses a danger to my person then I shouldn't be there regardless of what I have on my wrist. The watch wouldn't matter much if I get taken or harmed or worst.

I travel pretty broadly and most of the places I go, a Rolex will be ignored. some places, a Rolex will make me at target.

...but I don’t go any place where a Rolex would be currency
