The word on the street is that Rolex has momentarily cut back production of SS Sports models by 40% in the last Q4Jeeezzz... I thought you meant no more free software download of Nintendo's Steel Sub Wars....

What is your source for saying this? Pretty explosive if its correct. I can't see it myself but I could see them scaling back production to maintain demand.

Lol, really? It’s a joke, look at the date. Is there a 30th or 31st ever in February?

Rolex will stop making the watch they've been producing for 60+ years?

In other news, Lamborghini are no longer making supercars and are going back to making tractors.

Impossible, remember that In the beginning Rolex’s unique characteristic was water resistance. Then they made the definitive dive watch, and many other very solid tool watches. They are not dumb enough to alienate the sizable group of people that want a durable daily wearer.

Rolex has the tool market all wrapped up, they are not going to sacrifice that in order to compete with the likes of AP, Patek, Journe, VC, etc who make PM watches with better finished, more horologically interesting movements.

In related news, Ford is discontinuing the f150 in order to focus on the gt.

I think it would be more likely they would discontinue the pm model subs, but we all know thats not happening either.

The Sub is no flagship.
But it is a staple.

No way they are going to go from a £5K to a £25K minimum on their most popular model. Even Patek don't price position themselves this high, and Voutilainen would suddenly be looking over his shoulder.

Already happened on the LVc from 7.5K to 15K this year, so maybe this comes back from Basel in gold? But more likely a new movement or discoed.

Why are we over this again?

It is a good watch and most of us including myself have one.

Rest is just speculation.

X2. A total pipe dream. Why would Rolex stop making something that sells itself and customers in some areas of the world have to wait months for to get one?

No more steel Subs in 2018?!

Demand is still so high for SS sports models that everyone at Rolex would have to suffer simultaneous aneurysms to make this happen.

Could they add a special edition Sub in PM, sure. That is if Rolex wants to dedicate some manufacturing resources to such a project.

I was just thinking how much in value would the hulk go if they stopped that.

I don’t think it will considering how long they kept the Kermit.

But one can only dream.
