I did stop the movement last night after seeing Eddie's post, so it probably only ran for a couple hours after the fall. Thanks for the heads up.

On a reality note though, I feel your pain, and agree that you should stop the movement and take it in right away.
Yeah. The point of impact was definitely the cyclops and the cracks do emanate from it. I think it fell flat on its face and so the cyclops hit first. I had it face up in a locker about 4 or 5 feet off the floor. when I pulled a shirt out, the watch flew to the ground and landed face down. No carpeting in this locker room

I just hope nothing is wrong with anything besides the crystal. I'm going to take it to the RSC in SF next week. Can't make it there today.

I know how you feel about the economy and having to spend money on repairs.

I always tend to rationalize when it comes to adversities, such as this. My usual reasoning is, it's only money. No one was hurt. In this case, it wasn't you, who got hurt. Accidents, do really happen. We learn by experience.

Hope all turns out well with your GMT, James.

Cheers.

Thanks, Louie. I appreciate the sentiment. Guess there are worse things that could have happened to me.

Ouch , that sucks - I broke the Crystal on my DD the same way a few years ago - Rolex made me replace the face and hands as well that were damaged by the glass .... I think the bill was around $1,900 .

Funny thing is I can't feel any edges on the cracks, must have shattered internally. And it's still keeping perfect time....
Wow, EXACT same thing happened to me with a brand new Sub but my crystal didn't shatter...just scratched the daylights out of my cyclops...was able to have the cyclops replaced (that's how I found out that they were just glued on).

I know how it feels bud. The way I look at it though is that you were at the gym, wearing your watch, and these things happen. Live your life buddy, don't waste energy on little dings and nicks. Rolex can make your watch RIGHT again!

Keep it on when you're working out. Safer on the wrist, and she can definitely take it.

Sorry about your crystal--that looks wicked.

Follow-up question

This watch is actually under warranty, but I'm not the original purchaser and my name is not on the warranty card.

Will RSC honor the warranty even though I'm not on the card? I do have the warranty card.

That's a tough one. someone mentioned that if you received this as gift then warranty will apply to you

Less happen if you keep your Rollie on the wrist... I work out and I am very leary about leaving my watch in the locker (break in and fall outs). If you must leave it in the locker and the locker is a fullsize, leave it where you'd put your shoes. Or place the watch IN your shoe to prevent accidents like this.

I hope all is well internally and on the face of the GMT, I hope it's purely a crystal replacement.

Good luck my friend!

I know AD's that don't care whose name is one the warranty, if it is under warranty, they will get it fixed. The fact is though, this was not a manufacture defect, it was dropped, this one is on you sorry to say. Huge bummer, maybe try a local AD and see if the have a replacement crystal for it without sending it out the a RSC. I know my AD has a certified Rolex watchmaker that has the parts, hopefully you have one locally also. Best of luck.

Goodness James, I'm sorry about the 'drop'! Doesn't look great but she'll be as good as new soon! Good you stopped it running as well. The RSC will take good care of her!

I'm just outside of SF. Spoke to the SF RSC today and they indicated that I'd have to pay for the crystal but that if there was any servicing required they might be able to honor the warranty. We'll see.

Good Luck James!

If it's any help, I was in Japan a couple years ago and had a problem with my GMT. Since it was a short business trip I obviously didn't have my warrenty with me, but they took it in, serviced it, and I got it back the next day, no charge. Of course it was a defect in the watch and they probably checked the serial number to see it was less then a year old, but hopefully, you'll get similar treatment. Good Luck Again!!!

If it's keeping perfect time, what's the big deal? Let's not obsess over a few scratches.

I feel your pain. If it had happened to me, they would be talking me down off a high ledge with a priest and a bull horn. On the upside, I bet RSC will do a great job for you.

I recently got my Daytona back. It suffered a fate similar to your GMT, but unfortunately for me and my AmEx bill, some of the crystal got into the movement. $905 and 7 weeks later, it's back from the RSC as good as new.

If your watch is keeping time, sounds like your shatter wasn't as serious as mine, so your bill should be less.

Geez guys tough break.....aemm, sorry!

I have come close a time or two, but no major traumas yet (only a matter of time though, my life is hard on my watch) It is one reason i try not to take it off!

I fell and smashed the glass on a SS date a few years back. The damage didn't look that bad but the RSC had me change the face, perform a service and obviously purchase a crystal.
Came back like new though .
