It would seem Rolex can now attach a cyclops to a watch with a depth rating of 4,000 feet (unless they're just betting buyers will never actually put it to the test), but perhaps they still can't make it work for a watch designed to go down to 12,800 feet.
The sea-dweller was around long before sapphire crystal, and had a much thicker lens than the sub date, and a lot more curved so not really suitable for a date magnifier. Sure they could of fitted one when they went to sapphire crystal, but decided to stay with the consistency and heritage of the model.

Tried on the DSSD at a few points in time and it’s never been for me. Great tech, but didn’t suit me.

Tried on the SD43 and was instantly smitten. I really enjoy wearing it and recommend giving it a try.

Fair points. Although they raise the question that I was trying to get at (perhaps too obliquely): rather than asking why the DSSD doesn't have a cyclops, better to ask why the SD43 has one, since no other SD ever has.

Great picture....really shows the thickness of the DSSD as well as the domed bezel.

Another vote for the SD43. It has everything going for it and will always be remembered as the 50th Anniversary Sea-Dweller.

SD43. I have both this and the deep blue, but find the proportions on the SD43 a bit better

I bought both SD43 and SD4K but decided to keep the SD4K the size and “no cyclops” just ticked all the boxes. Good luck!

SD43 won for me. My AD in LA informed me I’m now VIP and that’s why he was moving it to me 😂.

Still loving my Deepsea, but if I were to look to replace it I would definitely pick the SD43.

SD43 is much more comfortable.

I love my Deep Sea, and it’s a great watch, but between the two SD43.

Heck I take SD43 over all my watches.

I’m tempted to am SD43 but would have to sell my JC Deepsea to get it....and that idea hurts.

The Deepsea JC has more character IMO.

Both watches are over engineered as you never going to be in depths for which they are designed. However, in my opinion SD43 is perfect watch: proper size, balance, cyclop (which I like very much). DSSD (especially D-Blue) has the best looking dial from diving watches range, however, it is too thick even for big wrists.

Both DSSD and SD43 are amazing pieces! You will find those who love one or the other more based on size proportion, look and comfort. I love both for different reasons, my advice would be to try them on and see which one you are most drawn to. They are both winners IMO.

The DSSD however, is discernible from across the room. And the SD4k, is perfection.

@tampashooter Can you PM me that picture so I can see it without the watermark going across it?

Old thread I know but that pic is the answer to the question I'm currently asking myself!

I prefer DSSD D-Blue to SD43. Thought SD43 was perfection, but then bought DSSD. After wearing both, sold the SD43 as it wasn’t as comfortable and just love the JC dial!

How would you compare the JC so sd4k? JC not for me as my wrist wouldn’t handle it, but I find to be one of the coolest Rolex ever made with the dial and capabilities. I find the 4K to be the greatest Rolex diver made in modern ceramic era. Curious an owners thoughts?

That one on right is rated to 4K, but it’s an M serial 16600, not the cerachrome 166000. I have seen the 166000 in the flesh, and it was amazing! Go for it. Probably one of the best values in Rolex pre-owned right now.
