If you have even a couple of watches you rotate through, setting the date really does get to be a pain.
I have two with dates and two without, and one quartz I don't have to worry about except in months without 31 days LOL...so I much prefer the no date with a clean face...YMMV and my opinion only...:-) Ultimately, get the one you like the most... |

I have the 114060 and greatly prefer it. It's not that I don't like having the date function. It's that I don't like the cyclops.

I do not like a watch without the function of the date. I really consult it daily, it is very useful for me. The 116610LN is the perfect watch for me and gather many things that identify the brand:
Rolex = Submariner Rolex = First wristwatch with day function Rolex = Cyclop!! (Iconic feature from Rolex) |

It’s really a matter of personal preference. I don’t like having a date on my watch, and I don’t feel like I want or need one. So, i would always choose the ND Sub. This does not mean, however, that I think people who want or need a date on their watches are wrong. That’s probably why Rolex makes both watches.

For looks alone, probably the no date.
However, the date function is very useful for me on a daily basis so I voted for that. It’s also pretty cool seeing the second hand go past the cyclops when checking the date! |

Date, IMO. I’ve had two without (Tudor Black Bay Bronze & a Speedy) and I hated having to check my phone for the date.

Here’s how I see it (it’s no perfect system), No date for starting/building or part of a collection, Date for a one and only.

Having the date really adds to it and I prefer to have “bells and whistles” :)

The Submariner simply does not have a date complication.
If you want that, you'll have to buy a Submariner Date reference.

My thoughts exactly. I understand the appeal of no-date divers (I also have an Omega Seamaster 300), but I find it too frustrating not to be able to know the date from glancing at my wrist. I also really happen to like the look of the date window and cyclops, so the Sub Date is an easy choice for me.

I made this exact post before getting my Nd. The polls went very similar as well, favoring the nd 55/45. I ended up getting the nd and after wearing it daily for 6 months I’m considering flipping it for the date. Listen to these guys here, they know what they’re talking about. If you are used to having a watch with a date you will definitely miss it more than you think. I find myself automatically staring at my wrist whenever I need to know the date. Also, I’m starting to love how the cyclops looks, it’s a very distinctive Rolex feature. Many have gone from nd to date and I might be next.

I prefer the ND for the clean, balanced dial and you do not see them everywhere.

A date is like a woman in your life. You realize you need one when you don't have one. Or maybe you just don't, after all. :-P. (joking, totally respecting women and living a happy relationship with a nice specimen).
My problem when wearing my no date diver (not a Rolex but it applies) is I tend to get frustrated if I need to know the date and have to take my phone out of my pocket, switch it on, see the date, switch it off, put it back in pocket. Worse in winter as I wear gloves. Yes, no date looks purer and more symmetrical. so nicer on the eye. Go with no date if you don't it the complication. (I'm not a fan of fat lugs but off topic). |

The date complication is nice to have, but I'm a stickler for symmetry.
Go ND.

I was struggling with this questions when I had to decided between these two, so I chose 116610LN, only because of the date - gives feeling a bit more complication to the movement.
But after I owned it for awhile, I think Date is bothering me when seeing the time, and No Date is a true beauty - symmetrical design is awesome. Try it on, then you will feel it. |

Either, or. They’re both great references. If you don’t need the date function then I’d say 114060 and save some cash too.

I guess if you need to know when to retank every hour the ND is perfect. But for my poor landlubber self, I need to know which 24 hour cycle I am in.

114060 for me. I have both and like that if I haven't worn my 114060 for a while and it stops, I only have to set the time and not time and date. Also, I like the clean/symmetrical look w/o date. Both are nice though so it just depends on what you like more.

I think the poll reflects the difference between the enthusiast who is likely to spend time posting in a forum about Rolexes, and the general Rolex wearer, more than it reflects the respective merits of the models being voted on. Rolex makes eight variants of the Submariner, and only one of them is offered without a date. That suggests the date feature is in much greater demand in the general market than the non-date version.

I've gone back and forth on this myself. While I originally loved the ND, over time I've found the Date more appealing. I think the cyclops is something you don't see too often on a watch and I kind of like that it's a little different in that way.
I only found this after purchasing and wearing my Tudor Sub with a cyclops in the last month or so.

General speaking, I would recommend choosing between 16610 and 14060. But to answer OP's poll, 114060 gets my vote.
