Should I decide to pursue a second hand Daytona SS 116520 which year model should I set my sights on? Are the newer year(s) such as 2014-15 better than previous years? Do any of the 116520 model years have annoying characteristics I should avoid?

Any other pointers and suggestions?

Many thanks for your help.
My suggestion is try one on first. Shockingly petite. 38.5mm to be exact

Nobody posting on this forum knows a darn thing about the Rolex supply chain, so take anything you read with a truckload of salt.

I agree

No one knows the supply but Rolex. ADs have no idea until they open the weekly shipments from Rolex.

Tell me -- does it matter if the date of manufacture of the 116500 is 2016 and not 2017?
I like the black dial too, good for you and I! Premiums on the white is 1-2 grand more!

Honestly if you like the 116500 save up more to get it. 116520 won't quite scratch the itch and you'll kick yourself after 3 days wearing 116520 while browsing pics of C-DT daily.

Wouldn't it be awesome if one could try both on, at the same time?

As i'm waiting, like everyone else, i keep looking back at 520 and thinking i might like it better.

i've tried on an earlier WG daytona (non c) and loved it.
i haven't tried the ceramic one, only platoona, but i wish there was a way to try them both on, no wait, all four, white and black dials in both versions.

Anyone in chicago has them all four? :D

I've had the pleasure of trying on the both SS ceramic daytonas... and fortunately now the proud owner of both white and black. They are awesome!

I was offered the 520 in white BNIB a few months ago and it just didn't hold a candle to the new 116500

I was looking back through my PM's from last September and a well-known gray market seller in TRF was offering the 116500LN black dial BNIB for $15,950. I wasn't as serious about buying back then as now. My bad timing. Sort of like I could have bought more shares in Boeing stock last September. The profit compared to today's price would have more than paid for the darn watch.

Yes, you could've bought bitcoin and purchased Platona with that money

Unfortunately I listened and obeyed Jamie Dimon not to invest in bitcoin.

I'm new to the Daytona fever that's going around and new to Rolexes in general so I have a dumb question: If I like the look of the earlier white face Daytona (116520), I must buy used because they no longer make a Daytona with a white face and SS bezels around the sub-dials, and an SS bezel? Am I correct that the new model has a ceramic bezel which is black and that a white-faced version will have black bezels on the sub-dials? If so, I may have to buy used to get the look I prefer.

From what I know about it -- Rolex still manufactures that 116520 "look" in the 18K white gold Daytona. But, the cost of it is an arm and a leg -- $30,000+. To me it looks dated as perhaps only the person wearing it will know it is superior to the SS model. I bet Rolex will start putting the black ceramic bezel on the white gold model soon, but I think it may not look as sharp on the gold models.

Then there's always the possibility some individual or collector has a new old stock 116520 in their safe waiting on the market to rise more.
