That “mediocre watch fair” happens to be one of, if not the most, well done watch shows in the world, which showcases some of the most prestigious luxury watch brands and jewelry from around the world as well. Rolex is one my most favorited brands, but they aren’t even close to the best or most prestigious - and that’s a fact - not an opinion.

And yet, the Richemont Group does not attend Basel; so...no JLC or IWC among others. They hold a competing watch fair in Geneva.

Precisely. The watch industry is basically 3-4 conglomerates. Rolex should host its own annual event. Patek has started to move in that directions already with their NYC showing.

I’m not sure a Rolex only event would be all that interesting, to me at least. I went to Basel last year and the variety of exhibits was very interesting, very small independent watchmakers, even Invicta had a great display, along with their other brand. Frankly, the Rolex display was rather passé, I knew all about the brand and its models. The new Skydweller was nice to see, but that’s about it. I can’t imagine how Rolex could justify a solo event when almost their entire lineup remains unchanged year over year.

Does anyone really think that Jocke would pack up and drive across Europe every year to attend a "mediocre watch fair?"

I think not!
