There is absolutely nothing 'gaudy' about any Rolex with diamonds.
I have seen some amazing Rolex dials with diamond combinations. I am a bit to young to wear diamonds but soon perhaps? They are not to everone's personal choice but are they out of reach financially for some who may not like them?

Haven't liked diamonds on mens watches until I saw the Day Date 40, WG with silver dial and baguette style diamonds. It's gorgeous!

The 116619LB came also with diamond markers. Unfortunately I could not find and bought the ordinary one instead. Dr. Tom has posted a picture of his many times.

I almost bought a 116613 with diamond dial from Mayor's back in 2009 or 2010. They also had a 116618 with a diamond dial as well .... I don't remember the last year Rolex offered the Subs with diamond dials, but I think it was around that time. If I'm not mistaken, the TT Sub I almost bought was 16k or so .. I couldn't justify the price

Personally, I cannot stand diamonds on a watch, period.
But, since Rolex sells a lot of variants of dial dials, there is obviously a population that likes diamonds and can afford them. However, they are in the minority as opposed to the millions of non diamond Rolex which have been sold.

I like Rolex tool watches. For me, diamonds are for showing off and offer no functional benefit. Therefore, I have no desire for diamonds on a Men’s tool watch. Now my wife has a watch with diamond indices and it looks great. But she also wears diamond rings and diamond earrings. Diamonds are a GIRL’S best friend.

Not sure I could ever rock a watch with diamonds. But if ever I did this would be the one. I had a co-worker many years ago that had this version in a 36mm DJ. He wore it daily and I always admired it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Both Rolexes and Diamonds are "supposed" to be a huge special occasion when you buy. Yes you can get a steal buying either pre owned, but thats not what the marketing wants you to do so i think thats a big aspect as to why resale is so similar on them. people are looking for the "wow factor" when purchasing either/both of those and they associate that with buying new. thats my opinion at least

To every generalization there is an exception. Some diamond dials are classic and seem to not shout “ice”.
For example, the Serti dials that can grace A Sub or GMT. Sent from my iPhoneX using Tapatalk

I quite like baguettes as markers, not round diamonds so much, but then under the crystal they lose a lot of their lustre so all in all I'd rather just have the normal batons.

On a mans watch my personal preference is NO diamonds unless they are on the dial. I can't stand the bezel, or bracelet "Iced Out".
I currently only have 1 Rolex and I was chasing a DJII Dark Rhodium Diamond Dial for years. When it came down to it with only 1 currently I said to myself the Diamond dial is very nice BUT not versatile enough for an only so I went DJII Black Baton dial instead. Again, I agree with some in the thread diamond markers or dials are ok but I cant stand anything diamond outside the crystal personally.

Welcome to the fourms. I think it honestly greatly depends on the person and the watch reference. With some Rolexes, like the day-date with a meteorite dial, it looks great and most seem to like it. For at least the small sample size of rolex owners here, diamonds for the people on the fourms is a little too over the top or flashy. But again, it also depends on the person, you would be the only one dropping a few grand on the watch

In order of agreeableness.
1. Dial markers - Baguette 6 and 9 + Triangle are classic, understated and really too small to scream bling. 2. Bezels - Getting more feminine but still cool. Getting harder to pull off around the supermarket. 3. Bracelet lugs/case paving - Blingtastic. Impossible to wear around the supermarket and few occasions where most men could wear one unless you wear a back to front hat, gold diamond teeth + Rope chains etc. If I was a woman I'd wear one. In answer to your question - Men into watches aren't into diamonds and women into diamonds not watches much prefer bigger diamonds.
