Any reality tv show.

The best bad TV show that I actually enjoyed (because it was so bad) was Small Wonder from the 1980s.

Do you prefer unrealistic family sitcoms like Ozzie & Harriet? Ozzie never had a real job and was always hanging around the house being jovial. Highly unrealistic whether in the 1950s or today.

As far as bad TV shows, Love American Style & The Love Boat are right up there in terms of bogus reality.

Coronation St, Eastenders and Emmerdale. Every time I go round my parents they are watching these and I have to leave.

Loose Women and Strictly are two others that come to mind.

Some Brit shows were good. Top Gear jumps to mind. To bad Amazon seems to have messed it up. The Original Avengers, some Doctor Who, and Primeval recently.

But still, its slim pickings (not Slim Pickens).

But Rickie Nelson got to sing at the end of every show.

Besides, its competition was The Donna Reed Show with Shelly Fabares.

A few American shows stolen from the British:

If you google it you can find dozens of shows that US TV execs ripped off and in fact on Netflix, there is a show called Episodes where that is the main premise.

All in the Family
Three's Company
Sanford and Son
The Office
House of Cards
Skins
Cash Cab
Shameless
Being Human
American Idol
Trading Spaces
Veep

Lucifer.

Bloody terrible it is. I'd rather stare at a blank screen that watch that garbage.

I don't get Game of Thrones either. My wife loves it but I can't stand it.

I use YouTube to watch news programs and other content.

It's just not cost effective for me to pay for cable when 99% of the content is so bad and it's not worth hooking up my TV, which is in storage.

I'm well aware of the social commentary in "All in the Family," but less so with regard to "Married with Children."

This is true.
There was once a show where Skip Bayless argued with Stephen A Smith.
That was it. Nothing else. That was the show.
The two least tolerable blowhards in the world, arguing with one another.
Wish I had proof it existed because I doubt none of you will believe me but I swear it's true.

Teen Mom on MTV.
The show glorifies teenage pregnancy. All the damn kids on there continue to have more kids to stay on the show and get paid.
Shameful.

Well I know it did because I used to watch ESPN, however I turned when that show came on.

Just thought of another one.

Salvage 1 starring Andy Griffith as a junk yard owner who makes a rocket out of scrap metal.
You know, to use it for salvaging metal from the moon and fighting crime and such.

Classic.

most started out good i think. Drawing out a successful show far in excess of its natural life span is where they get boring. New plots that serve no purpose than to extend the show another season.

I was flipping channels the other day and on the classic channel was a show about 2 astronauts that time travelled back to caveman days. I have never seen a worse show. I can’t remember the name. It was bad. Watched 10 mins of it and was amazed that it was actually on tv.

Doesn't apply to GOT which is actually getting better now that all the lead characters are meeting each other for the first time, quite a feat to keep the main leads all apart for 5/6 years or reuniting them after season 1.

We have to remember what network TV shows are all about. They are corporations whose main purpose is to make money.

Much like it was discovered that cigarettes were designed to be a delivery system for addictive and dangerous drugs, the TV industry evolved into merely a delivery system for commercials.

And TV execs couldn't care less about the quality of programming as long as there are sufficient people to watch it, to set the ratings so they can charge X number of dollars for 30 seconds of commercial time. That's why it's all about ratings. High ratings, higher amount charged for companies and pharma to sell you crap you probably don't need.

One of the highest rated programs ever was Cheers. And it took a long time to gain an audience, but the network chief stood by it because he thought it was good and would eventually excel. Today that kind of patience is really rare and most shows are cancelled waiting to find an audience.

But the lower end crap and inexpensive to produce reality stuff seems to attract the base instincts of the viewers and so that's what sticks around.

I think the history of reality TV came about around the time there was a writers strike and networks were scrambling for junk to fill the void. And reality TV was extremely cheap to produce, and it's generally low life attraction just stuck.

In fact a lot of the good stuff from say 10-15 years ago was in the big 3's, baby networks like USA, FX etc who gambled on waiting for an audience and took more chances.

So actually expecting much from network TV to be any good is being pretty optimistic. But now there are a lot more venues like Netflix and Amazon that are making a better and more interesting product.

Agreed.

That TOWIE bollocks took some beating too. Mrs Van D watched the first couple of series and I’d leave the room.
