Ok...

Who told you the Pawn shop offered $17k?

How much does he owe you?

I highly doubt there was a $17k offer on that watch.

He is bamboozling you into taking the watch at an inflated "cash" value to save himself some money.

I would take the cash.

Dissolve the business partnership.

Reconsider your business plan.

Cash for sure. No pawn shop would offer 17k on that. You wouldn’t get that retail with no papers.

Take the cash. It would be a different story if you were already in the market for this particular watch in this particular configuration. If you want a watch sell it and get something you picked out for yourself. Don't get me wrong. It's a nice Daytona but it would've been nice if box & papers were included. It's always easier to sell something like this with a full set. Not to mention you'll always get more with it.

Ask some trusted sellers how much they would take for it.

After you have that then you know the worth if it’s more than what he owes you go for it. I would not feel bad making more money especially since you are doing your homework.

If it’s lower then of course I would not do it and ask for cash.

Another option is If the value is there and you like the watch and don’t need cash then maybe take it wear it for a while then sell if necessary.
I like this thought about asking trusted sellers what they would buy it for. Then you know what you can truly flip it for. As if it were liquid cash. Finding a retail customer online could take awhile, so your position isn't really liquid unless you know what wholesalers are willing to pay immediately. You could accept what trusted sellers are willing to pay plus the difference in cash. Don't beat it up and it should rise in value over time.

I have also heard of people paying debts to business partners and at gambling tables with fake Rolex watches. It looks like you're using a stock photo due to the perfect white background. If you are considering taking the watch, I would have it inspected with you present at an AD to ensure it is genuine.

Yes. Check the weight of the watch. Look for the hallmarks and if in any doubt take it to an AD to verify that not only is it authentic but not stolen either. This is why I always think box & papers matter even though most dealers will tell you otherwise especially with Rolex. When box & papers are included the chances of the watch being stolen are much much lower. While I doubt this is the case here, in this era be very careful who you trust!!!

I wouldn’t feel right wearing my partners watch I acquired when he was unable to pay his debts. So regardless of the worth, I wouldn’t keep it.

I even keep my MacBook Pro, iPhone and sunglass boxes but I'm a little OCD and like to keep things in as good condition as possible. I don't understand people throwing out boxes from expensive items either! I don't think lots of women are throwing out their Cartier boxes.

$17,500 is fair if it is complete with box and papers. It's no bargain and not priced high.

Take the cash, without B&P, I seriously doubt you would get more than 17,5k

Well to be fair unlike Rolex a macbook Pro box will not affect resale value either way.

Obviously. I keep the boxes because I like them. I don't sell them anyway. Always good to have a backup.

I'm not sure how accurate the website chrono 24 is, but I checked that reference, and it shows the value with OUT box and papers at just under 25,000 market value. I also rated it a 1 which is in top mint condition. The value will drop from there due to its condition. I think you have room to sell and make a profit, but on our website, you are new to the game, so I cant say if you can sell it here without issues. My 2c only
