11 for B , 3 for A Yes AP novelty 44 RG/Ceramic it’s perfect for my lifestyle, cool AF watch , not a scratch magnet; and what a presence. The hesitation is due to the grail position that the 5070 has , it’s a staple. Not just that 5070 has so much character and collectible (it might go up on price) 5070 is also a little scary for me because is a lot of money on one piece. I pick 5070J , instead of the other gold variants because it’s the more blingy and sexy of them. I need on my collection a colored gold watch (5070J or AP gold/Ceramic) , it’s what I call my power watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This exactly. Not too keen on the 5070 in the gold. The 5170 with white dial is stellar.

I’d vote option A as I really like the 5070, re the AP 44 I’m not a fan of the updated black dial.

I will say if you’re going for a 5070 I think the J is criminally underrated! Many here, myself included, have crushed on it since Sam’s (fremstar) pics years ago!
...Deleted the piece about wanting to buy your 5170 because I’m tightroping lunacy and refuse to fall :P

I'd go with option B. It's a more complete/diversified collection to me, with almost every occasions covered (even to tone up to match your lifestyle with the RG44). With option A, the Daytona, DJ and Diver seems likely to be in a hard fight for your wrist time (same metal colour and kind of casual for all of the three).

No to be honest I never seriously entertained buying the 5070. I just think it is the most handsome of all the 5070s which is not a popular opinion I guess. The dial print matches the case so nicely and I love a black dial.
I have other reasons I prefer the 5170 to the 5070 but it is not worth diving into here

OK, well my 4 would be RG 44, 5170, 5164 and D500 or DJ41 if more viable.
1 AP, 2 PPs and a Rolex is very similar to my collection balance. |

Hey Jorge,
I am relative newbie here but I want to "play the man" not the watch. I've been through your "consolidation" thread numerous times and regardless of how many watches you buy/sell, you always seem to come back to the basics: 1. Complicated Patek - 5170G (you don't seem to keep yellow gold watches for too long, probably because yellow gold by nature has an "age" factor attached to it. Moreover you seem to favour WG/Platinum metals. 2. Rose Gold/Casual - well (don't know why you've sold the 5164RG as it was a perfect fit for your collection). So with that in mind, AP RG/Ceramic is the go, although I don't see you keeping AP for too long. (imho it's just not special enough given AP's propensity to continuously mix and match colours and combos thus diluting the brand) 3. Daytona/DJ - as you said, both are keepers. I am also wondering why isn't there an "office" watch in your collection? eg. Annual or Perpetual calendar. You are a Patek guy and Patek meant to be complicated! Last but not least, you seem to have given up on the entire "Nautilus" line. Can I ask why? |

2) I haven't sold the aquanaut I still have it. I need a colored watch in my collection at all times (power watch) 3) I have gave up on Annual Calendars (its an in between piece IMHO) and I prefer a chrono (5170/5070) than a Perpetual Calendar 4) and yes I gave up on the Nautilus line and all these exposed bezels "scratch magnets" watches for that matter..... tire of baby them

Couldn't agree more with you on all the points.
While you are in the midst of your horological journey I am only at the beginning. I am however, trying to learn from your experience in the hope of avoiding buying/selling various watches to arrive at the same destination. Especially here in Australia where it's nigh impossible to buy any 2nd hand Pateks. While I do like 5711/12 Nautilus, paying over 40k for one is ludicrous! Given your vast experience, would you recommend a 5170G as a daily/office grail? While I have a 5167 as my current "beater", I would like to experience a Patek complication, a watch I can keep for many years without being tempted by yet another upgrade. Is 5170G the grail I am looking for? Having had dozens of absolutely mesmerizing pieces, you would have the best perspective on this question. Cheers Vlad Quote:

Yes I can give you my opinion, at the end is just my opinion. Although my horological journey is commendable, usually these journeys are very personal. I feel , that the key word here is “ feel” and on that note I feel that the Chronograph is my ultimate complication therefore my recommendation will be 5170G or any of the 5070’s. I can’t go back to AC’s , too much money for Perpetual Chronos , and the PC’s are too damn small. Buy what makes you happy, best advise ever . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Appreciate the insight Jorge.
If you weren't so invested in chronos, would AC's be on the list? ie. 5960 or 5146 still offer ~40mm case so they are comparable to 5170. What makes me happy? Well hard to say, every time I see Patek's I feel like a "kid in the candy store". I like many models and complications. In fact your original collection (with 12+ pieces including FPJ and many others is what I like) Still, one can only wear one watch a a time. Hence why I am seeking advice. |

Buddy, you know my thoughts on this. Add the 5070 and the 44 AP. With just the daytona you have a trio to last a lifetime

Not to get off base but didn't you like the ceramic AP diver real well in the past? The 42 size might be better for a hold forever type watch.

Yeah I like the AP Diver Ceramic, but I need RG for this watch, if any I could substitute the AP Diver on Steel for the AP Diver on Ceramic on Option A . Quote:
That’s probably why you might need to go through the journey and don’t take my insight because it might work differently for you. I know that’s the expensive way. Quote:
