Just gonna say.....

If I buy a new watch from and AD it's coming with a 5 year warranty and the card in my name.

Anything less is BS, certainly coming with ZERO card is a straight up no-go.

Will call Dallas tomorrow. I was house cleaning today (dug out the tabletop magnifier). I want to confirm that the watch serial number matches the receipt before I call.

The date was wrong on the watch receipt-which had to be an accident as I have the matching cc receipt. The date caught me off guard as we were outside the US on the receipt date. Anyway, felt it was better to verify the serial number before moving forward.

Reading the 28/31mm thread has been a bit disturbing. I have done as much due diligence as I can for my watch purchase, but buying my wife one was an impulse purchase. I feel like I totally screwed up, but darn it-you should not have to worry about games when purchasing from a dealer. You should just be able to pay your money and get your watch (and all the stuff that comes with it).

As for stickers, again I failed to pay attention. They started sizing it while I was paying. I have no desire to flip it, and suspect it will be in the family for years. Still, it is part of the heirloom to have the paperwork.

——
Tomorrow I may know more, but right now it appears (most likely explanation) is that the AD effectively sold me a gray market NOS watch with the factory warranty expired-them selling gray market without serious disclosure disturbes me. It should also bother Rolex as it tarnishes faith in their dealer network.

Based on what I've read so far:

I agree with others in the forum - a new watch carries a warranty, with "new" meaning that the watch has never been sold - even if it is 10 years old in inventory. And if it were 10 years old, I'd probably want a service as part of the purchase.

If they are not giving you the appropriate warranty, I'm not sure I'd want a watch from them in the future. Something is fishy!

Your predicament is that your wife really likes the watch, and I assume she has it already. Her feelings matter too. But I still wouldn't deal with that AD in the future.

The warranty starts the day the watch is sold new. It doesnt matter how long the watch has been sitting in the dealers stock. It doesnt 'cost' the dealer anything to provide the warranty as the warranty comes from rolex. If they couldnt supply the warranty card then you havent bought a 'brand new' watch. I would have a serious issue with this.

Very weird... I don’t understand why you weren’t given a card + the five year warranty. It’s not your fault it took them that long to sell the watch.

unless you really want to keep the watch and can bear
buying a new watch without warranty, i think you have
every right to ask for a full refund. an authorised dealer
selling a watch to customer without the warrant card is
not right, let alone not inform you while you made the
purchase. if they refuse to refund you, you should contact
rolex directly.

Warranty on NOS from AD?

I’ve purchased NOS from an AD before. Whether it is an older model that is discontinued or not, New is New and when purchased from an AD, you MUST get the warrant card that comes with it and yes that means the full 5 years of warrant from Rolex from date of purchase. It doesn’t matter if the watch is 10 years old.

I would go back to the AD with the full kit and demand politely the warranty card being handed to you. Tell them they can keep their 2 years they offered. If they do not, inform them that you will report them to Rolex, where they can lose their license, which I am sure they wouldn’t want.

You have the leverage here - use it. And if you burn that bridge with them, then be it - I personally would never want to deal with such an AD in the future anyway.

No AD with any integrity would sell you a brand new watch without the factory warranty. Even if it’s NOS.

Since you mentioned that you’re quite certain this is an actual authorized dealer the only plausible explanation is that this watch has been previously sold and not in fact truly brand new.

From your standpoint you’re still getting perhaps an unworn watch but without the Rolex warranty.

Regardless of the fact that you will probably not use the warranty I would be furious to discover I was lied to. Forget a list, why would I ever want to suppose a business who makes such lies to their customers. Even if you want to keep the watch I’d suggest you get to the bottom of this. If it ends up that it was previously sold I would be demanding a strong refund.

Looks like this watch was a return or trade-in, not new so get your money back. Lying on hot models is one thing, lying on YMs and DJs is something else, and I'm sure Rolex will want to hear about this and get their ADs in line before their high street reputation is really shredded.

So I called my dealer back. They apologized and said I should come in and they would correct the oversite. They even mentioned I might want to do it tomorrow morning when they open. Appears they just got a new shipment in and have not started calling people on the lists yet

Then I woke up..

Actually called the DSC. they did not tell me much. They said dealers are not required to report sales to them and there is no list of watch warrant registrations available to them. WhIke they agreed that I should have received a warranty card, if I needed warranty service they would take the bill of sales from the AD under consideration.

Fwiw, they did ask who the dealer was, and they immediately recognized them as an AD. It don’t think they will do anything with that information as it is not their business-they just service and repair watches.

Fwiw they told me Rolex have a 2 year warranty, before say other than New watches.

I could call them again, this all started when I called the AD for my card and they said I did not get one because the watch was sold without a factory warranty, ONLY an in store warranty.

The dealer is a 4Hr+ round trip away. That said, while I think visiting in person might be more effective, if I vocalize my concern they might just call security...

And this is why you need to call Rolex distributor and give them the facts.

Please, LEAVE EMOTION AT THE DOOR and just give Rolex the facts. Look forward to us both learning the truth of this transaction and what Rolex has to say about it.

It's more likely they sold you a returned watch that already had the warranty card filled out. They'd have had no problem filling your name in on a blank card and handing it to you.

WHY would a new watch be sold without a factory warranty?
