Check out Park Central Hotel. Situated perfectly IMHO. Clean, new and great experience. Walking distance to my favorite espresso bar.

I like Residence Inn on 39th and 6th. They have tiny rooms (like all the other NYC hotels) but not very expensive and the staff is courteous. Its close to Time square and Broadway.

We were just in NYC. We stayed at the Marriott in Time Squares. Nice hotel with nice standard Marriott rooms. Walk out the door of the Marriott and Broadway is right in front of you and so is Times square. Right across the street from the Marriott is a restaurant called Juniors, alway busy but the wait in never that long and the food is very good and prices are reasonable. We ate there twice during the weekend we were there and enjoyed it both times. When we go back I'll be staying there again.

Another idea, look at AirBnB for a short term apartment rental. I bet you can get a nice apartment for several nights for less than a good hotel in NY. Since you aren't going to be in the room much why pay a premium for a bar, access to room service, etc. Plus, if the weather is bad, or for some other reason, and you do need to spend more time inside than planned better to be in an apartment than a tiny hotel room. I've been to NYC a lot and agree to avoid staying in Times Square. It's constantly filled with masses of people, a billion blinking lights that are going 24x7, and very touristy. I think most NY'ers avoid the area except if they have to work there. Upper West side is very nice and is pretty much a straight shot to Times Square and lots of other places without having to switch trains. Anywhere between 72nd and 86th on Columbus, Avenue of the America's, Broadway, are close to the park and easy to understand how to get around as the streets are all a grid, North, South, East and West are all you need to keep track of.

Another vote on Palace. Great location. Also like Parker Meridien. Stayed at Chatwal last time in NYC (also included as part of AMEX Platinum Fine hotels and resorts). Would stay there again. Super nice room.

Marriot in downtown brooklyn. Literally stone throw from the brooklyn bridge. Walk a couple blocks to the bridge and you can walk across to manhattan in 15 minutes. Few minute taxi ride to downtown manhattan.

Download the Hotel Tonight app. It’s phenomenal. Don’t stay in Times Sq. Best bet is midtown east I’d say. Try Lotte, or the Renaissance or Fitzpatrick perhaps. Then you’re right by all the great shopping on 5th, MoMA, and close to the Met.

You could always go for one of the newer trendy lower-end places which your daughter might enjoy like the Moxy by Marriott or the citizenM.

I always love staying at the Hudson. It’s near the park and close to the MMO.
The rooms are tiny but it’s ultra cool with Philippe Stark style decor etc. Your daughter might really enjoy the stay. |
