how much do you want to bet that knowing for sure its a fake (if he didn't already) he is still going to try to unload it somewhere?

Its happening

Box printing also looks poor.

I think when it comes to buying used pieces, having a full complete set with original receipt or factory service paper is worth the premium. This is a scary post to read still.

Bang on.....just looked at my boxes, and there is just no way that printing is correct. Good catch.

So here is what happened:

I met with the guy who had the box, tag and booklet with him. He says he is still looking for the warranty but really seemed genuine about it.

He actually says he does not recall if it came with anything additional. I asked him where he got it from and he told me he picked it up during a trip he and his friends took to Dubai not so long ago. He said he paid something close to $10,000 for it because the AD was selling it as pre-owned. He actually showed me the receipt and yes it reflected the cost of a little over 10K. But it the description on the invoice only said "watch".

Get this! He said his other friend purchased a Daytona Ceramic white for around 15K!!

So, I gently broke the news and of course the first thing he did was question my sources and get a little defensive. I shared with him this thread and let him read it and that's when I kind of felt bad because he seemed to be hyperventilating as he was reading it. He called this friend who bought the Daytona and told him about me and my findings. This friend of his advised him to not trust me and to take the watch to the local boutique to authenticate it.

He was actually a little annoyed with me at the end.

I was sooo tempted to ask to take a look at his friend's Daytona but let it go.

I returned his watch and wished him luck.

Thanks again guys for all your help. I truly feel blessed being a part of this forum.

Additional pictures below of the bag, tag and box.

I’m not aware of any ADs in Dubai that sell pre-owned watches

I don't think he meant an AD. But there are a few jewelry stores that sell used watches. Not only in Dubai, mind you, but all around this region. I've seen them myself but cannot confirm if they are authentic or fakes. I don't go into those stores as they really scare me.

I do agree with some peple above that this is very frightening.

Never actually thought of this. Makes me question. I am actually curious to stop by the boutique myself to handle a 15400 so see how different it feels.

Multiple strange circumstances, the seller is most likely full of shit. Im sure you won't be hearing how the authentication goes.

With the 15400s you can at least see the movement to identify if it's a fake. What about a 26331 or26320?!?! What does one do then?

Yeah. I see where you are coming from and have to agree with you because I was very suspicious. But a small part of me was giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I wasn't necessarily feeling bad for him as much as I was feeling bad for those who were scammed by these fakes and paid a lot of money. I don't regret going through this though as I learned a lot from the process.

Definitely go try one on at an AD or Boutique if the piece is available. I haven't held or seen a replica 15400 in person but I'm sure you will be able to tell the difference. The genuine dial and the grande tapisserie reflects light (especially on the silver) unlike any other out there. In addition the squares on replica (via pictures) are usually noticeably off. Same goes for the thickness.

Maybe next I'm in Asia I'll see if I can pick one of these on the cheap just to compare and investigate the difference.

Im in Asia and these are everywhere.... the copies here are scary! you have your usual "china town" crap but then there is these "replica" watches that are to the untrained eye or novice virtually impossible to tell....... there is a couple of local dealers who import them here (under the counter in the silver case sort of thing) and ive had o look at some compared to my real ones and its scary! and im by no means a watch novice!

Ive got a 44RG novelty and i had a look at a replica side to side on mine and besides the weight, magnification on the date and the offset marker at 3:00 position its almost identical if you didnt know what to look for... even the fake plate covering the movement looks similar and if you didnt have a genuine beside it you prob wouldnt know

it is truly scary

A scam. He most likely tried to scam you.

That box may be an original AP box (hard to tell from these pics) the booklet and tags can be bought SH.

But this thread is kinda dead, as the watch is fake.

I found this, it shows real vs fake side by side with clear close up photos. Most of the fake one is passable from several feet without closer inspection but the movement is awful and a dead giveaway. https://forum.replica-watch.info/for...-bp-comparison
