If it needs to be an Explorer II, go with white dial. Then when you get your Submariner later, you will have a white dial and a black dial rather than 2 black dials.

I was actually thinking black Explorer II dial, then blue Sky Dweller dial!

Honestly, I'm just really surprised how I never asked what model I should get, in fact I even said which one I will buy, but still some decided to tell me what my 1st model should be...

If there’s one sports model you get a discount on it’s that. My AD has had both models sat in the window for a couple of weeks. Just not that popular for some reason. Subs and GMTS don’t even make it to the display case.

Polar Explorer 2 is an awesome watch, I personally like that white dial more than the black. I've tried that watch on several times and I'm always impressed with it, especially the beautiful black gloss finish on the hands.

Great choice in either black or white dial. I have owned both, and IMHO black is a bit sportier, while white is very crisp and more understated..
Good luck finding the perfect one for you and Happy Birthday!

Thanks everybody for all the support! Thanks to TRF someone reached out to me and recommended a potentially great dealer close to me. We have a hand shake deal so far and on Friday I'll go to the AD store front. If all works well, I'll post a pic plus the AD that helped me!

I think it must be a location thing. Here in Delaware I bought the only polar available and it was only put out a day or so before I bought it. One AD has a waiting list for full pop on the polar but they have a black in the case. The AD i bought mine from has a black as well.

If your heart is set on the EXP II then that's a great first Rolex! You can always add a black dial sports watch (e.g., Sub, GMT) in the future.

I'd certainly at least ask for a discount, especially if you're making a special trip to DE for the watch. I'be never been in the market for the EXP II, so I can't comment on ADs willingness to offer a discount. I will say this though -- in the last couple trips I've made to my local ADs I've always seen a white dial in the display case.

Absolutely get the one you want.

I had the same issue, a Sub is a must have, but wanted a Daytona - I went for the one I wanted and will wear, and am now stashing some cash aside for the next one - which seems to change every 3 or 4 days...

Get the Explorer you want, you'll love it and enjoy it...then start saving for the next one.

jesus h christ on a bike ! the man has said he wants the Explorer, am sure he's aware of the Submariner....

I went with the black dialed 216570. The Polar looks great in pics, in real life I preferred the black, but I was lucky enough to be able to try them side by side before committing.

I picked mine up from a reputable seller on watchrecon, like new, complete set, 2016, for couple thousand less than MRP. Takuya is trusted as is Au 911tt

cheers

Go with what you want. Sounds kinda like you’re set on the explorer 2 216570. If your debate is between the black and the white I’d Say wear both of it in person and picture yourself wearing it in your real life situation and which one speaks to you more. I have the older 5 digit model and the color of the dial was probably the hardest decision and at first I was just in love with the black and thought it looked way nicer but the white grew on me more and more each day to the point where that’s what I chose as my final decision. You can view hundreds of pictures and videos online but it’s not the same seeing it in person. Good luck to you my friend!

Exactly. Get what you want. It always surprises me when posters tell someone to get X when the person had (very) clearly said something else. It’s behavior that is almost condescending.

I finally got my watch today, a special thanks to all of you who helped me out!

Sorry for not the best pic, I took a quick snap when I got home, little funny too trying to meet the size requirements for the attachments, a lot of cropping over and over to get that 1250 x 1250.

Not sure why a few ppl have tried to tell the OP to get a Sub when they clearly want an ExpII. I’d recommend DavidSW if you are looking for a good deal vs. retail

Exactly this. I can only justify keeping one at a time. So if a new interest pops up, then the previous one gets flipped.

utter nonsense, get what YOU desire, for me 22 years ago it was a 'Pepsi' GMT ('cause Chuck Yeager wore one)

as for the Explorer II in white, love it (I own one) and think it makes a great everyday piece.

as for the 10% from an AD that doesn't know you....good luck !

Congratulations on a classic watch, what a beauty....was great learning here about the watch being worn to summit Everest.

I just purchased my first Rolex a couple of weeks ago, and it's a great feeling to finally put one on your wrist.

Enjoy it in good health and have fun....
