Okay, but the same goes for other things as well. I’d rather pay more for things of substance and that will last. I’d rather take care of and maintain those things I have than constantly have to replace them.

Are you a 20 year old kid? Does everyone have to do everything exactly the way you want it? Do you even realize and respect that other people have different perspectives, goals, priorities and desires than you? I can't stress this last point enough, so I will say it again, this was a post about a 20 year old kid wanting a watch. Who really cares??? I know Rick well enough to know that he was posting this for a laugh. For fun. I am quite certain he loves and respects his son even though he doesn't currently want a Rolex, and currently prefers...as a kid...a "gizmo".

Ok. Please go back and read my original question to you.
Which you have still not answered. Instead you went off on a tangent about your lack of respect for the brand. I was simply curious about what you thought I was saying. Because again, your original response made no sense.

Consider yourself lucky that he wants an Invicta. My 20 year old has the exact same wrist size that I have and he constantly “borrows” my watches. Last week I came back from a business trip and decided to wear my Nautilus for the evening. To my surprise, it now has a scratch on the bezel and it was pristine when I left it. Of course, it wasn’t him.

So why exactly did you buy your Rolex and not 300 Invictas instead?

Please, go back, take a minute and read our conversation again. This thread is not about you or I. It is about Rick's kid. You still haven't answered my original question. I made a simple statement that many people like the brand. It is not for me, but I am good with that. And I am happy for them. It's not about what YOU OR I would do. If Rick's 20 year old son prefers one over a Rolex, all the power to him. This was so simple. It is so simple. I only asked you what you meant by your point, because I did not understand. I don't know how to explain this any better. We have successfully derailed this entire thread because of your seemingly pretentious disdain for something that a 20 year old kid likes. Rick, I am sorry. I will not continue this any further.

There’s a significant difference both in cost and how much value people place on these two brands. If there weren’t a significant difference in the way people look at the two then why would so many willingly pay such a difference when deciding to purchase a Rolex over an Invicta?

I had to go back to the top of the thread to remember what it was about! I like Ricks joke in jest. Doesn’t matter what watch anyone wants, each to their own I guess.
Seth, how’s your forehead? lol

Let him lose, break, love, drop that invicta because you know what at the mall its buy 1 invicta get the 2nd one free!
All jokes aside its great that he wants a watch. Start there and see where it goes, Invicta, Swatch, designer brands who cares. There are forums of people that know Rolex but wouldn't dare be seen wearing one. At least he didn't want a Patek for the first one, good kid!

Well, I think it's great he has an interest in analog watches. Seems like most his age simply use their phones or would want an Apple watch. If you can find one he likes that's relatively nice it might be a great way for him to better appreciate other brands one day

First off Rick congratulations.
The fact that your son got excited when he saw watches and brought it to you is really cool. He wants to connect with you, there is nothing more fulfilling than that. Seth don’t bother..... waste of oxygen. |

In most cases! I got into watches only a couple years ago at 21!

I would get him whatever he chooses. If it's an invicta then you just saved some money!
The first watch I bought myself around 19 or 20 was an Armani Exchange fashion watch that I saw in Las Vegas for around $300. That's what my budget allowed for and at the time it fit my taste. I still have it, although don't wear it. It's a good representation of where this hobby came from and kind of comical to reflect how far the hoby and myself have evolved. When he's interested enough to upgrade, hopefully he see's it the same way. |

First watch i bought when i was 19-20 was a Nixon. I thought it was really nice and it was probably $200 or so. It’s what started the passion! Buy him the invicta and let him figure out what nice is.
