The old PMs on leather obviously took a big hit especially you can see ADs giving up to 20% discount to clear them in order to make way for OF. For OF the discount is between 5% to 8% but some ADs do not even budge

Agreed. MSRP less your discount, then 20% less after that.

Yes, apart from maybe the new WG OF, the idea of paying retail on a PM Rolex piece was unheard of, good discounts were always available.

I don't know and am not in the market for one, but do you think the WG/OF model will stay hot? Seems PM reverts to big discount to MSRP over time and I wonder if those paying close to MSRP now will be in for a big hit eventually. Thoughts?

I recently spoke with my AD about acquiring WG Daytona on OF here in Ontario, Canada, and he is willing to give me 18% off. I negotiated with him a little more and got 22% of the MSRP. I have bought numerous watches from him in the past. Stick with one AD, and sometimes it helps.

Selling it yourself may be you could get 21, 22K.
Selling it to a trusted seller may be you will get between 16 and 18...

Having owned more than 20 PM watches, not all at once, I think that you can do much better than is being represented here. It is about reputation and relationships with the TS and AD's. The structure of the deal, cash or cc, or trading other watches or a combination of the above will get you where you want to be. I would buy slightly preowned and a complete set. This should put you between 30-35% or more off retail. This is the buffer that if and when you flip you will see another 8-15% off that number. On occasion though you get lucky and it is smaller. Part of the fun is the hunt and acquiring the watch though the real fun is ownership. And then do it all over again. If you want it, make it happen.

This one looks a bit different, probably due to the close association with the SS, as the RG is £2K below it already which is unusual for a WG model, so I think this resale will stay strong, and hard to buy for under retail from a known grey here still.

That is very good, as I said in UK you might get 5% off if the AD knows you well as greys are selling this for retail and some even above it. Think Rolex will keep supply tight with this one too.

I do like the OF models, and I do like rubber straps, just not at PM prices.
Try to get a ss black dial and put it on an oysterflex or rubberB

This is true. I have a few too many data points than I’d like as confirmation

Hahaha. I just (re) read this whole thread. I commented twice before, but of course didn't remember from two years ago. Then the bump of this 2 year old thread is for an acronym definition, not even in the slightest related to the original topic. lol

Not only that, the original context was the dreaded valuation question that’s been the bane of our existence lately...

If you’re asking this question then the watch probably isn’t the right thing for you.

PM Daytonas have risen in price with the YG green above retail. I think most PM now sell just under retail used. If you can sell it yourself maybe a 15% hit. If you have to sell to a dealer they need at least a 20% margin to pay overhead and then they still sell it at the going rate which is a little below retail. I am thinking at full retail whatever that is you would then lose at least $7500 in selling to a dealer. Its good to know the back door numbers but the guiding principal should be you love the watch and have every intention to keep it long term. The strong value hold is really in the SS sports/tool stuff not in PM.

Just saw this is a two year old thread. No wonder OP stated retail at 32K. Was it even that low in 2018? Now its much higher with the recent price increase.
