One of the other members suggested this on my original thread. I tried a pair of those. Nothing like the quality of the originals and nothing but complaints online about them.

Strange. They have 4.5 stars on Amazon. Their nylon flat laces had terrible reviews, but the waxed flat boot laces were well reviewed.

Apparently, the better laces aren’t available in the wilderness.

PM me your postal details and I will send you for free the crap flat ones and my original broken one so that you can compare them. There is no substitute for having them in your hands.

Your work details will do if you don't want to give out your personal details to a stranger on the internet.

You can keep the crap ones.

The NEW flat waxed laces ARE crap. I bought a new pair of Blacksmith 3343's last weekend. Took them out of the box, put the first boot on my foot, gave the flat waxed lace a tug and it snapped in half. Literally new out of the box...

This is why I've gone with the round laces on all my Red Wing Heritage boots.

Johny had the right idea with going to the round laces and I was happy to help a fellow TRFer out.

Redwing sells their round laces on Amason as well. Plus, there are several online lace stores that carry all of Redwing’s offerings.

Awesome gesture Rick. I was just trying to give him self help options.

Enjoying the round laces Rick.. Really strong. I wish redwing would start making the 899 MODEL boots again. Over 40years I've been wearing them for motorcycling and everything else. Down to my last pair now... Before the 899s I used to wear the Corcorran jump boots. They were good.

The 899 is a good looking boot. Hopefully it will come back one of these days.

Have you given the Iron Ranger a serious look?

I wore flight boots during my entire 23 year Air Force career and the Iron Ranger is as close as I can find to something that fits as well and wears as comfortable.

I also have several pair each of the Blacksmith and Beckham Round that are very comfortable boots once broke in. The two things I do different is to have speed hooks added to the top three eyelets (Beckhams) and replace the flat waxed laces with round. I add the speed hooks to my Classic Mocs as well.

We're probably about the same age - I've worn Red Wing boots for over 40 years also. I can't imagine wearing anything else.

For me the Beckmans are too lightweight for m/cycling. With a pair of the 899s on I always feel that I can kick cars out of the way. I bought two pair of the Horween chrome excel leather Beckman 1911s when they first came out...great boots....well until the lace snaps that is. I also have a pair of the 2917s.

Strange. Given your level of interest I would have thought that you would have jumped at the chance to be able to do a physical comparison. Oh well.
